Job summary

Shawenim Abinoojii Inc. is recruiting a Director of Human Resources to provide strategic leadership across all HR functions from 865 Main Street, Winnipeg. This full-time role partners with the Executive Director to shape HR strategy, cultures of inclusion, and regulatory compliance.

The incumbent will lead recruitment, retention, policy development, HRIS, budgeting, and staff development while ensuring a respectful, high-performing workplace in service of First Nations communities.

Qualifications

  • Completion of post-secondary education with a focus in Human Resources Management or related field is required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in senior management with focus in HR.
  • Knowledge of Manitoba labour laws and related practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic HR leadership to executive leadership and Board on people issues.
  • Establish HR policies, procedures and best practices.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and staff development programs.
  • Lead HR budget and HRIS reporting; monitor attendance and leave.
  • Support DEI, employee relations, investigations and conflict resolution.

OVERVIEW:

Reportingto the Executive Director, the Director of Human Resources will providestrategic leadership and operational oversight for all human resourcesfunctions across the organization, while ensuring compliance with applicableCanadian federal and provincial employment legislation. This role isresponsible for developing and implementing HR strategies that align withorganizational objectives and culture while supporting organizational growththrough employee relations, diversity, equity and inclusion. This role acts asa trusted advisor to the Board and senior leadership on people related matters.

KEYRESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides strategic advice to senior leadership onworkforce planning, succession planning, and change management.
  • Establish HR policies, procedures and bestpractices.
  • Act as a trusted advisor regarding HR policies,regulations and interpretation.
  • Work with leadership to complete scheduled reviewand revision of Human Resource Policy.
  • Develop recruitment and retention strategies toattract qualified candidates.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding and orientationprograms.
  • Support succession planning and leadershipdevelopment initiatives.
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive and collaborativeworkplace culture.
  • Advise senior staff on employee relations matters,performance issues, workplace investigations and conflict resolution.
  • Support senior staff in coaching, employeedevelopment and performance improvement planning.
  • Promote employee engagement and recognitioninitiatives.
  • Promote continuous learning throughout theorganization.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable employmentstandards, human rights, labour relations, occupational health and safety,privacy.
  • Lead and mentor the Human Resources team.
  • Manage HR budget.
  • Oversee human Resource Information Systems (HRIS)employee records and reporting.
  • Track, monitor and produce monthly reportsregarding staff attendance, overtime and leave sheets.
  • Work with the finance department to establish andmaintain salary scales aligned with funding model.
  • Travel to First Nations served by the organizationto maintain working knowledge and contribute to relationship-based servicemodel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion ofpost-secondary education with a focus in Human Resources Management orrelated field is required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’experience in senior management level with focus in Human Resources.
  • Demonstrate knowledgeand/or understanding of Indigenous perspectives, First Nations culture andtraditional philosophies.
  • Extensive knowledge andunderstanding of Manitoba labour laws and best practices.
  • Experience with employeerelations, including coaching, investigations and corrective actions.
  • Skilled in conflictresolution, policy development, and HR process management.
  • Strong organizational,leadership, and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonalskills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a highattention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of HRdatabase systems.
  • Ability to handleconfidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent oral and writtencommunication skills.
  • Ability to speakAnishinaabe is an asset.
  • Strong proficiency inMicrosoft Office, word processing (MS Word), Spreadsheets (Excel), E-mail(Outlook) and Internet.
  • Knowledge of the Childand Family Services (CFS) sector and legislation an asset but notmandatory.
  • Must have a valid class 5driver’s license and access to a vehicle are a condition of employment.
  • Must have clear CriminalRecord (vulnerable Sector Check), Child and Adult Abuse Registry Check,and Prior contact Check.
