Job description

SiteTalent is partnering with Canada’s leading integrated workplace safety company to find a Director of Business Development. Our client is a well-established and rapidly growing organization that brings together specialized safety companies, expert teams, and industry-leading services under one coordinated model. They serve the construction and skilled trades sector with a full suite of training, consulting, compliance, emergency response, occupational health, and risk management services-making workplace safety simpler, more connected, and more effective for their clients.

Summary

The Director of Business Development is a high-impact commercial role responsible for driving new client acquisition and market expansion across the company’s training programs, with a specific focus on the construction and skilled trades sector. Reporting into senior leadership, you will identify, engage, and close new business opportunities with construction companies, contractors, industry associations, and workforce development partners across Ontario.

You’ll actively promote the company’s training solutions by meeting with prospective clients, presenting program offerings, and demonstrating how their modern, flexible training model-including their proprietary LMS and hybrid delivery-helps organizations upskill their workforce more efficiently. You’ll have real autonomy to build your territory, shape the go-to-market approach, and directly impact revenue.

This isn’t a role for someone looking to simply clock in and clock out. They want someone who takes ownership, thinks independently, and has the confidence to make decisions, solve problems, and move things forward without waiting to be told what to do. If you’re energized by building something from the ground up and thrive in an ambitious, high-growth environment, this is worth a conversation.

What You’ll Do
Business Development & Sales
  • Own the full business development cycle-from prospecting and outreach through presentation, negotiation, and close.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the construction and skilled trades sector.
  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective clients across Ontario.
  • Conduct outreach through calls, emails, networking, and in-person visits.
  • Present training solutions to decision-makers and stakeholder groups.
  • Negotiate and close training agreements and service contracts.
Client Engagement & Relationship Building
  • Build strong relationships with construction companies, contractors, and industry stakeholders.
  • Understand client workforce challenges and position tailored training solutions.
  • Act as a trusted advisor for training and compliance needs.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with prospective and new clients.
Industry Outreach & Market Development
  • Attend industry events, trade shows, and networking opportunities as a senior face of the company.
  • Represent the company at construction and workforce development forums.
  • Develop awareness of market trends, competitor offerings, and industry needs.
  • Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships and referral networks.
  • Clearly articulate the value of the company’s LMS and hybrid training model.
  • Translate technical training offerings into clear business value propositions.
  • Demonstrate how solutions improve compliance, efficiency, and workforce productivity.
  • Align solutions with client-specific operational and regulatory needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of leads, opportunities, and client interactions in CRM systems.
  • Track sales pipeline progress and forecast revenue opportunities.
  • Provide regular reporting on business development activity and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with leadership on sales strategy and market expansion plans.
What You Bring
Experience & Credentials

  • Experience working in or selling into the construction, industrial, or skilled trades sector.
  • Proven track record of building client relationships and influencing decision-makers.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Comfortable with CRM systems and structured sales processes.
  • Ability to travel extensively within Ontario.
Skills & Attributes
  • A confident, client-facing business developer who can sit across the table from an owner, a safety director, or a GC and represent the opportunity with credibility.
  • Independent and resourceful-can determine what information is missing, solve problems, and move work forward without constant direction.
  • Strong commercial judgment-understands how to position value, manage a pipeline, and move deals forward.
  • Self-driven and results-oriented with a builder’s mindset.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative-works well across departments.
  • Confident without ego.
Nice to Have
  • Experience selling training, compliance, safety, or workforce development solutions.
  • Familiarity with construction industry regulations and workforce challenges.
