Job description

This role will be hybrid, with in-person work required at one of our SafetyCo locations in Southern Ontario.

Project Overview:

SafetyCoLabs is a new workforce education and training venture by SafetyCo. The initiative is designed to modernize workforce training by combining digital learning, industry-aligned curriculum, and direct pathways into employment.

The Project Manager is responsible for coordinating the development, experimentation, and execution of innovative initiatives within SafetyCoLabs. Working closely with the Lead Project Manager and cross-functional teams, the Project Manager will help translate SafetyCoLabs' strategy into well-structured projects and actionable work. This includes coordinating initiatives, supporting pilots and experiments, exploring new technologies and approaches, managing timelines and deliverables, and helping move ideas from concept to implementation.

This isn't a role for someone looking to simply clock in and clock out. We're looking for someone who is curious, future-focused, comfortable with ambiguity, and energized by figuring out what could be possible. You should be comfortable testing ideas before all the answers are known, learning from failure, challenging assumptions, and moving quickly from concept to action.

Why This Role Exists:

This role exists to turn ideas into action. SafetyCoLabs is being built to challenge traditional approaches to workforce education and training. The Project Manager creates the structure, coordination, and momentum needed to explore new ideas, test emerging technologies, develop new learning approaches, and turn promising concepts into functioning solutions.

What Success Looks Like:

Success in this role means:

Project Execution & Delivery

Turning SafetyCoLabs' priorities into clear, actionable projects with defined scope, timelines, milestones, resources, dependencies, and deliverables.

Supporting the development and testing of new approaches, technologies, programs, and learning experiences that address real challenges and create measurable value.

Project Coordination

Keeping projects organized and on track by coordinating tasks, timelines, resources, decisions, and dependencies across multiple workstreams.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Bringing together technology, training, operations, marketing, HR, education partners, vendors, and other stakeholders to keep initiatives aligned and moving forward.

Problem Solving & Adaptability

Identifying roadblocks, managing changing priorities, challenging assumptions, and finding practical solutions when projects don't go exactly as planned.

Successful Implementation

Helping turn successful experiments and concepts into practical, repeatable programs, products, processes, or technologies that can be launched and scaled.

Requirements
What You'll Do:

Project & Opportunity Development

  • Identify opportunities across training, technology, learning, and operations.
  • Research emerging trends, technologies, and approaches to workforce development.
  • Turn ideas and insights into project concepts, recommendations, and actionable next steps.
  • Support the prioritization and tracking of SafetyCoLabs initiatives.
  • Coordinate rapid prototypes, pilots, and proof-of-concept projects.
  • Test ideas quickly, gather feedback, and adjust based on results.
  • Apply a practical, test-and-learn approach to solving problems.

Project Execution

  • Manage approved initiatives from concept through implementation.
  • Build and maintain project plans, timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate multiple workstreams, track progress, and keep projects moving.
  • Identify dependencies, manage changing requirements, and address issues as they arise.
  • Maintain accountability for project deliverables and deadlines.
  • Coordinate cross-functional initiatives across technology, training, operations, marketing, and other teams.
  • Facilitate project meetings, workshops, and working sessions.
  • Bring the right people together, clarify next steps, and keep communication flowing.
  • Build alignment across teams and help remove roadblocks.

Technology & Learning Innovation

  • Explore practical applications of AI, automation, analytics, digital learning, and emerging technologies.
  • Research new approaches to workforce education, training delivery, learner engagement, and employment pathways.
  • Work with technology and education teams to test and implement new solutions.

Risk & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify risks, assumptions, dependencies, and blockers early.
  • Support informed decision-making around whether to pursue, pause, modify, or stop an initiative.
  • Track outcomes, capture lessons learned, and use data and feedback to improve projects.
  • Adjust plans and processes based on what the team learns.

Partners & Implementation

  • Coordinate with vendors, education providers, technology partners, and other external stakeholders.
  • Support the transition of successful pilots into full implementation.
  • Help coordinate the rollout and scaling of new programs, products, processes, and technologies.
  • Maintain clear documentation, project reporting, and communication throughout each initiative.
What You Bring:

Required

  • 3–5+ years of experience in project management, program development, operations, technology implementation, product development, or a related field
  • Experience taking projects or initiatives from concept through implementation
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional teams, projects, or initiatives
  • Strong project planning, organizational, and execution skills
  • Strong creative problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions in ambiguous environments
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities, deadlines, and competing workstreams
  • Experience working with technology, digital platforms, data, or emerging tools
  • Strong ability to adapt plans based on new information, feedback, and changing requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership, solve problems, and keep initiatives moving forward

Preferred

  • Experience working in a startup, innovation, technology, transformation, or fast-paced project environment
  • Experience in workforce development, education, training, or learning technology

You look beyond the status quo, stay curious about emerging technologies and approaches, and recognize opportunities to improve how things are done.

Creative Problem Solving

You approach complex problems from different angles and develop practical solutions that move projects forward.

You’re comfortable testing ideas, learning from results, and adjusting your approach based on what you discover.

You bring structure to complex initiatives, turning ideas into clear plans and driving projects through to completion.

Ownership & Initiative

You take ownership, identify what needs to happen, and move work forward while knowing when to seek direction or bring others in.

You thrive when priorities shift, information is incomplete, and the path forward isn’t always clear.

Builder Mentality

You enjoy building what doesn’t exist, getting into the details, solving problems, and turning concepts into real, working solutions.
