NovaXpress Courier Services, headquartered in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, is a leading provider of express logistics and transportation solutions across Atlantic Canada. As the organization executes a national and cross-border growth strategy—built on operational excellence, customer loyalty, and innovation—it is seeking a visionary Director, Business Development – Trucking to lead expansion efforts, secure strategic partnerships, and position NovaXpress as a preferred partner for B2B trucking solutions across Canada.

This is a hybrid position open to candidates based in Halifax, Toronto, or Moncton, with national travel as required.

The Opportunity

The Director, Business Development – Trucking will assume a critical leadership role within NovaXpress. Reporting to the Executive Leadership Team, this individual will be responsible for originating and closing high-value opportunities, building a strong pipeline of national accounts, and aligning growth initiatives with corporate objectives. This role requires a strategic, market-driven thinker who can leverage industry insights, operational experience, and strong relationships to propel transformational growth.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Market Development

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive national business development strategy
  • Identify and prioritize growth opportunities across key industries
  • Expand NovaXpress’ presence beyond Atlantic Canada into targeted new markets

Executive Client Engagement

  • Cultivate and secure strategic partnerships with senior executives and procurement leaders
  • Act as a trusted advisor to major clients, aligning services with evolving supply chain needs
  • Represent NovaXpress at industry forums and executive-level events

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Work cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, and Marketing to ensure delivery on client needs
  • Influence service innovation and operational planning based on market and client feedback
  • Contribute to overall corporate strategy and direction

Commercial Growth Execution

  • Achieve revenue, margin, and market share growth targets
  • Lead go-to-market strategies, pricing models, and commercial planning for new services
  • Implement structured reporting and pipeline management tools

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Experience: 10+ years in business development, strategic sales, or commercial leadership in trucking, logistics, or freight
  • Track Record: Proven success securing large, complex B2B contracts
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong grasp of Canadian trucking markets and relevant regulations
  • Leadership: Executive presence and ability to influence diverse stakeholders
  • Strategic Mindset: Capable of aligning business development with broader corporate objectives
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; MBA considered an asset
  • Mobility: Willingness to travel nationally as required
