Job description

Reporting to the Senior Director, Enterprise Risk Policy, you will play a key role in identifying, developing, maintaining, and communicating enterprise-wide policies to help achieve strategic alignment with RBC’s risk profile. In this role you will develop and update credit risk-focused enterprise risk policies, provide policy related advice and guidance to RBC’s businesses and head office functional units. Most importantly you’ll be a leading advocate for strong and robust policy governance, adoption and effectiveness.

What will you do?

  • Identify, prioritize and address credit risk policy needs in an effective and timely manner. You’ll need to work independently and effectively to develop policy concepts into new or existing credit risk policy documents and ensure credit risk policies align with regulatory and supervisory requirements, the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, Risk Appetite Framework, Risk Conduct & Culture Framework, and other risk-specific frameworks.
  • Work actively with other groups, teams and subject matter experts across RBC to develop effective, understandable and implementable enterprise-wide policies.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders from RBC business platforms and head office functional units to provide timely and effective communication that facilitates the successful adoption of enterprise risk policies.
  • Present and / or steer policy documents through the approval process with senior management and risk committees including the Policy Review Committee, Group Risk Committee, and the Risk Committee of the RBC Board of Directors.
  • Develop strategies for monitoring and reporting on adherence to, and effectiveness of risk policies.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness of developments in the businesses, markets and regulatory environments, recommending and incorporating changes into risk policies as appropriate.
  • Provide guidance and advice to businesses and GRM relationship management teams in the alignment and integration of enterprise risk policies; including the formulation of business strategies and supplemental business-specific policies and / or standards.
  • Benchmark policies, processes and systems against industry best practices and make appropriate recommendations.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-Haves :

  • 10+ years of experience in financial services – in particular credit and / or market and counterparty credit risk management, capital markets, and / or corporate / commercial banking
  • Very good understanding of regulations (CAR / BASEL / IFRS9)
  • Very strong problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional people skills – ability to collaborate effectively and draw out diverse views to achieve greater results
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and in an organized manner
  • Intellectual curiosity, global and strategic mindset with ability to think conceptually

Nice-to-Haves :

  • University degree (e.g. MBA, LLB) and / or professional designation (e.g. CFA, CPA)
  • Project management experience and / or project management designation
