What you’ll be doing
The Senior Director will report to the Vice-President, Corporate Credit Risk Management, who is responsible for the management and adjudication of US and Canadian Corporate Banking, and Canadian Commercial Banking Credits. The focus will be on Energy (Oil & Gas) and Energy-related clients.
The Senior Director will form an integral part of the team adjudicating and managing credits within this portfolio.In addition,the group provides advice and counsel to its Line of Business partners in fulfillment of the Corporate and Commercial Credit Risk components of their strategic plans.You’ll work closely and collaboratively with our business partners to understand, measure and monitor risk and adhere to CIBC’s policies in order to maintain a risk profile that is consistent with a prudently run financial institution.

How you’ll succeed
Client relationship management & collaboration – Demonstrate the ability to develop strong relationships and work collaboratively with line of business partners. Develop a high level of knowledge of the Energy sector and Capital Markets business lines, and provide advice to executives on relevant matters. Attend client meetings with front-line relationship managers as appropriate and be able to consult and assist as a subject matter expert to influence the development, implementation and management of policies and programs related to the sector(s) covered.
Client advice - Provide constructive advice and guidanceto relationship managers on credit transactions, within CIBC’s credit policies and guidelines and CIBC’s risk appetite.
Analyze, report & present – Contribute to and participate in presentations to senior management and other stakeholders, analyzing the portfolio, emerging risks and industry trends.
Risk management & compliance - Demonstrate a keen understanding of current and developing regulatory issues, as well as CIBC credit policies, guidelines and procedures. Effectively utilize CIBC risk rating methodologies to ensure an objective and accurate assessment of risk in credit transactions.
Who you are
You can demonstrate experience in managing large and complex corporate credit deals, and possess superior analytical and communication skills. You should be able to demonstrate the ability to build trusting and respectful partnerships with stakeholders from different groups and at different levels across the organization. It’s an asset if you have Energy industry experience (lending or firsthand), a relevant Master’s Degree or are CFA Charterholder.
