Job summary

VIA Rail Canada Inc. in Toronto is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic to maintain and repair locomotives at the Toronto Maintenance Center.

You will perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and running repairs to VIA Rail standards, with a focus on diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues and ensuring adherence to Transport Canada guidelines. The role is a permanent, full-time position with a standard 40-hour week and varied shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Must have 3 years of Diesel engine internal combustion engine experience.
• 421A license or 310T license is an asset and HDM license preferred.
• Excellent teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, perform preventive maintenance and running repairs on locomotives to VIA Rail standards.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic defects and perform repairs.
• All inspections and maintenance should be in compliance with VIA’s maintenance program and Transport Canada standards.
