Job summary

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie is seeking a part-time Dialysis Unit Assistant to support renal services. The role involves stocking, patient assistance, and machine prep to ensure smooth clinic operations.

Education includes a Community College Diploma and a Dialysis Unit Assistant Certificate. Prior inventory control in healthcare and dialysis exposure are preferred; strong interpersonal skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Community College Diploma in a related health care or patient care discipline.
  • Dialysis Unit Assistant Certificate course required.
  • 1 year experience in inventory control in a health care setting preferred.
  • Experience or exposure to a dialysis unit is preferred.
  • Good interpersonal skills in communicating with patients, team and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain organized stock room and put away supplies (Wellington location).
  • Assist patient service clerk with ordering supplies (Wellington location).
  • Assist patients to chairs and waiting room.
  • Stringing and stripping of dialysis machines.
  • Assist in weighing patients and informing the weight to the nurse.
  • Apply/adjust blood pressure cuff for patients.
  • Obtain blankets, pillows, ice and items to enhance patient comfort.
  • Cleansing of reusable supplies.
  • Emptying of partially used concentrate and bicarbonate containers.
  • Prepare patient treatment supplies for machines and bedside prep for nurses.
  • Move machines for acutes and set up those machines.
  • Check chlorine on RO for acute patients and in water room in morning.
  • Assist with Hoyer lifts/bedpans and patient transfers.
  • Hold needle sites at end of treatment when required.

  • Putting the blood pressure cuff on patients

  • Preparation of patient treatment supplies for machines/ getting supplies ready at the bedside for the nurse
  • Moving machines for acutes in the building and setting up those machines

  • Checking the chlorine in the water room first thing in the morning
  • Assisting with a Hoyer lifts or bedpans if needed as well as transferring patients.
  • Holding needle sites at the end of treatment when required
