Job summary

SOGECLAIR in Montreal, QC is seeking a Designer responsible for design and 2D/3D modeling of parts and assemblies, producing drawings and ensuring compliance with engineering drawing standards.

The role emphasizes collaboration, problem solving, familiarity with CATIA V5, NX, 3DVia, and ERP systems, and bilingual English/French; join a diversified team and contribute to quality processes and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • DEC in Aerospace Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong knowledge of First Article Inspection (FAI) processes.
  • Bilingualism (French and English).

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop parts and assemblies according to customer requirements and industry standards.
  • Modify existing designs or create 3D models of parts and assemblies.
  • Develop and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Revise and incorporate changes into technical drawings.
  • Standardize 3D models and drawings to standards; analyze and resolve change requests.
  • Provide technical support to Production and Engineering teams.
  • Follow QMS procedures and apply appropriate tools in tasks.
  • Share technical knowledge and best practices with team members.

Job description

The Designer is responsible for the design and 2D/3D modeling of parts and assemblies, as well as conducting analyses and resolving production-related issues. The Designer also produces 2D drawings from 3D models while ensuring compliance with the client’s or SOGECLAIR’s engineering drawing standards.

  • Design and develop parts and assemblies in accordance with customer requirements and industry standards;
  • Modify existing designs or create 3D models of parts and assemblies;
  • Develop and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications for various components and assemblies;
  • Revise and incorporate changes into technical drawings;
  • Standardize 3D models and engineering drawings according to customer and industry standards;
  • Analyze and evaluate engineering change requests;
  • Research technical documentation and specifications when not provided by the customer;
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve technical and production-related issues;
  • Provide technical support to Production and Engineering teams;
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of quality procedures;
  • Share technical knowledge and best practices with team members;
  • Review assembly work instructions and manufacturing documentation;
  • Understand and comply with AS9100 requirements related to the responsibilities of this position;
  • Follow the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) procedures and apply the appropriate tools in the execution of assigned tasks;
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience;
  • DEC in Aerospace Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field;
  • Experience in the aerospace or manufacturing industry is considered an asset;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint);
  • Strong knowledge of First Article Inspection (FAI) processes;
  • Proficiency with design and modeling software such as CATIA V5, 3DVia, and NX;
  • Knowledge of Material Resource Planning (MRP) systems, such as SAP and BaaN;
  • Knowledge of Teamcenter software;
  • Knowledge of Mentor Graphics or CorelDRAW is considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of design and product lifecycle management software such as AutoCAD, SmarTeam, Enovia, and MBOM is considered an asset;
  • Bilingualism (French and English), both written and spoken.
