Job summary

AGI - Ag Growth International is seeking a Design Engineer Lead in Swift Current, SK to guide complex product design from concept through production. You will own the full lifecycle, drive innovation, and set technical direction in partnership with product leaders.

The role emphasizes engineering excellence, talent development, and strong collaboration across Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Operations to deliver manufacturable, cost-effective solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Agricultural, or related field).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation preferred (Canada).
  • Typical experience: 7-10+ years in design engineering.
  • Proven experience leading complex product development projects from concept through production.
  • Strong expertise in CAD design tools (SolidWorks or equivalent).
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver complex engineering solutions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and mentoring capabilities.
  • Ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and influence technical direction.

Responsibilities

  • Design Leadership & Development - Lead the design and development of complex products and systems, ensuring alignment with performance, cost, and quality objectives.
  • End-to-End Project Ownership - Own full product lifecycle from concept through commercialization, ensuring timely and effective delivery.
  • Innovation & Optimization - Drive innovation initiatives, cost reduction strategies, and product standardization efforts across the portfolio.
  • Advanced Engineering Analysis - Perform and oversee advanced engineering analysis, including structural, performance, and risk assessments.
  • Strategic Collaboration - Partner with Product Management and leadership to influence product strategy, roadmap direction, and technical decisions.
  • Design Review & Approval - Review and approve designs, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration - Work closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Operations to ensure designs are practical, scalable, and manufacturable.
  • Team Leadership & Development - Manage, mentor, and develop engineering team members, fostering technical growth and strong performance.
  • Continuous Improvement - Lead initiatives to enhance design processes, tools, and engineering standards.

The Opportunity

The Design Engineer Lead is responsible for leading the design and development of complex products and systems across AGI's portfolio. This role owns the full product lifecycle from concept through commercialization, ensuring solutions meet performance, cost, and manufacturability targets.

As a senior technical leader, the Design Engineer Lead drives innovation, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement while collaborating closely with product and business leaders to shape product strategy and technical direction. This role also plays a key part in developing engineering talent and ensuring high-quality design standards across the organization.
