Job summary

Newrest in Mississauga is seeking an experienced Chef to join our culinary team in a fast-paced kitchen. You will lead the kitchen, prepare high-quality dishes, manage production, and ensure food safety standards are met.

Qualifications

  • Mandatory proven experience in a similar position in a Restaurant or Catering environment.
  • Experience with Halal, Middle Eastern, Indian cuisine is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of HACCP is an asset (training will be provided).
  • Ability to handle pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Consistent attendance, punctuality, attention to detail, and reliability.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Menu Preparation & Execution: Prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to recipes, ensuring quality and portion control.
  • Team Leadership & Training: Supervise kitchen staff, manage prep lists, and provide training.
  • Food Safety & Sanitation: Maintain a clean and safe kitchen and adhere to food safety regulations.
  • Menu Planning & Development: Collaborate with management to plan and modify menus per client and airline requirements.
  • Equipment & Maintenance Oversight: Ensure kitchen equipment is functional and report maintenance needs.
  • Quality Control & Record Keeping: Monitor food quality and maintain production records.
  • Effective Communication: Coordinate with kitchen and service staff to ensure timely service.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Menu Preparation & Execution: Prepare and cook a variety of dishes (meats, fish, pastas, side dishes, garnishes) according to recipes, ensuring quality, consistency, and proper portion control.
  • Team Leadership & Training: Supervise kitchen staff, manage prep lists, and provide training to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to standards.
  • Food Safety & Sanitation: Maintain a clean and safe kitchen, ensure proper food handling, temperature control, and compliance with food safety regulations.
  • Menu Planning & Development: Collaborate with management to plan, modify, and execute menus based on client and airline requirements, including special menus for presentations.
  • Equipment & Maintenance Oversight: Ensure all kitchen equipment is functional, clean, and in good working order; report any maintenance needs or unsafe conditions.
  • Quality Control & Record Keeping: Monitor food quality through tasting and temperature checks and maintain food production records to track inventory and meet service standards.
  • Effective Communication: Coordinate with kitchen and service staff, ensuring smooth communication and timely service delivery while adhering to company standards and safety protocols.
