Job summary

Save-On-Foods in Powell River, BC, is hiring a Department Manager, Deli to lead the department with a customer‑first mindset.

This full‑time role focuses on coaching a team, driving sales, ensuring health and safety, and maintaining merchandising standards while delivering exceptional store performance.

You will analyze KPIs, manage inventory, and collaborate with leadership to grow loyalty and optimize operations in a fast‑paced grocery environment.

Qualifications

• Retail experience 1–3 years is required.
• Food Safe Certification is required.
• Post-secondary education in business is an asset.
• Experience achieving sales targets and profitability.
• Merchandising plans and in-store displays experience.
• HR activities: training, development, coaching and mentoring.
• Workforce planning and scheduling knowledge.
• Health and safety policies, procedures and safe work practices.
• Proficiency with computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead the department, coaching and mentoring the team with customer-first service.
• Deliver operational excellence in customer experience, health and safety, food safety and merchandising.
• Engage and retain staff through training, performance management, rewards and recognition.
• Communicate key messages and business objectives to team members, aligned with goals.
• Review financial reports, identify opportunities to improve performance, present KPIs.
• Analyze department HR metrics and dashboards.
• Support strategies to grow sales and customer loyalty.
• Lead inventory counts and period-end activities, resolve issues as needed.
• Perform all duties across the department, including lifting up to 50 lbs.

Position

We are hiring a Department Manager, Deli at our Save-On-Foods location in Powell River, BC. This is a full‑time position, 40 hours per week, and the successful applicant must have open availability.

Responsibilities

• Leading the department, acting as a coach, mentor, and resource while fostering a positive team environment focused on Always Customer First service.
• Delivering operational excellence through customer experience, health and safety, food safety, and merchandising.
• Engaging and retaining team members through training, performance management, rewards/recognition, and succession planning.
• Communicating key messages and business objectives to team members in the department, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
• Reviewing and analyzing financial reports, identifying opportunities to improve performance, and presenting KPIs to the management team.
• Analyzing business/HR metrics and dashboards of the department.
• Supporting with implementing strategies to grow sales and customer loyalty.
• Leading inventory counts/period end of the department and resolving issues as required.
• Performing all job duties throughout the department as needed, including lifting weight (up to 50 lbs), standing for long periods of time, and working in hot/cold environments.

Requirements

• 1-3 years of retail experience.
• Leadership experience is an asset.
• Food Safe Certification.
• A post‑secondary education in a business related field is an asset.
• Experience and/or knowledge with: achieving sales targets and profitability; executing merchandising plans and creating in-store displays to drive sales; human resources (e.g. training, development, coaching and mentoring); workforce planning and scheduling considerations; health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices; proficiency with computer applications.

Compensation

IND1 Compensation Details: $54,080.00
