Job summary

Save-On-Foods in Powell River, BC seeks a Department Manager for the Deli to lead a fast-paced team and ensure top-notch customer service.

You will supervise daily operations, manage staffing, training, and safety, and drive sales through merchandising and KPI monitoring. Open availability and 40-hour work week are required, with a friendly, customer‑first culture.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of retail experience.
• Food Safe Certification.
• Post-secondary education in a business-related field is an asset.
• Experience with achieving sales targets, merchandising plans, and in-store displays.
• Experience with human resources, scheduling, and safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Leading the department, coaching and mentoring the team.
• Delivering operational excellence through customer experience, health and safety, food safety, and merchandising.
• Engaging and retaining team members through training, performance management, rewards/recognition, and succession planning.
• Communicating key messages and business objectives to team members in the department, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
• Reviewing and analyzing financial reports, identifying opportunities to improve performance, and presenting KPIs to the management team.
• Analyzing business/HR metrics and dashboards of the department.
• Supporting with implementing strategies to grow sales and customer loyalty.
• Leading inventory counts/period end of the department and resolving issues as required.
• Performing all job duties throughout the department as needed, including lifting weight (up to 50lbs), standing for long periods of time, and working in hot/cold environments.

We are hiring a Department Manager, Deli at our Save-On-Foods location in Powell River, BC.

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, and the successful applicant must have open availability.

You will be responsible for:

• Leading the department, acting as a coach, mentor, and resource while fostering a positive team environment focused on Always Customer First service.

• Food Safe Certification.

• Experience and/or knowledge with:
  • Achieving sales targets and profitability.
  • Executing merchandising plans and creating in-store displays to drive sales.
  • Human Resources (e.g. training, development, coaching and mentoring).
  • Workforce planning and scheduling considerations.
  • Health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
• Proficiency with computer applications.
