What you will be doing

Reporting to the National Director of Brokerage, the Customs Brokerage Manager ensures compliance with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) regulations. Responsibilities include overseeing import/export operations, leading the customs brokerage team, and maintaining relationships with government agencies and clients.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing a team of customs specialists, providing guidance and support.
  • Serving as the primary contact for duty and customs regulatory inquiries.
  • Tracking team productivity, resolving issues related to releases and inquiries.
  • Ensuring timely entry submissions to prevent delays and penalties.
  • Managing issues, implementing corrective actions, and improving customs processes.
  • Handling E29B entries and carnet applications.
  • Providing after-hours support as needed.
  • Communicating with Rhenus offices and agents promptly.
  • Conducting audits of customs entries for accuracy.
  • Managing relationships with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and partners.
  • Overseeing inbound and outbound shipments, monitoring ITMR, and ensuring compliance with client HS code requirements.
  • Supporting duty drawback processes, Canadian Duty Deferral, Bond requirements, CARM, and account setups for non-resident importers.
  • Handling export cites applications.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years of management experience in customs brokerage.
  • Preferred: Customs Compliance Specialist (CCS) designation and Customs Broker License (LCB).
  • Strong knowledge of customs tariffs, duty drawback, HS codes, and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with non-resident business number applications and CARM process.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and provide after-hours support.
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
