Job summary

NAIT’s campus bookstore is seeking a customer-focused individual to deliver outstanding service across in-store and web orders. You will engage customers, assist with inventory and promotions, and support digital course materials while ensuring accurate transactions.

This 29-hour-per-week, part-time temporary role involves shifts across 8:00am–6:00pm, with potential weekend work and coverage at multiple campuses. A flexible, collaborative environment awaits.

Qualifications

• Must have minimum 2-3 years of previous experience in a retail or customer service environment, where focus was on providing excellent customer experience.
• Point of Sale experience is necessary to be successful in the role.
• Completion of grade 12 and a combination of experience and education related to the role.
• A current driver’s license would be an asset and easy access to a vehicle as our satellite campuses are difficult to get to on public transit.

• Actively engage customers by offering support, suggesting items for purchase, answering questions, and resolving concerns in a friendly manner.
• Assist with stock levels, shelf planning and replenishment on a regular basis.
• Understand that our business is a retail store and that flexibility is required with scheduling.
• Operate in a buddy training capacity with new staff to support standards and growth.
• Support Team Lead group with larger overarching tasks, taking ownership where needed.
• Process sales and web orders in an efficient manner, modelling accuracy.
• Support the picking and fulfillment of web and special orders.

Please Note: This is a temporary part time position, ending on or before September 10, 2027, with the possibility of extension. This 29-hour a week position includes a variety of shifts flexing between the hours of 8:00am and 6:00pm including movement/shifts and coverage between Patricia, Souch and Main campus based on business needs, this may include the occasional Saturday.

This individual will join our team and provide outstanding customer experience. We are more than just a bookstore, and not only will you serve those who walk in our doors, you will provide digital course material support and assist in fulfilling web and special orders. Our web order support includes processing online orders as well as the selling of digital resources, and trouble shooting student issues. Attention to detail is a must in this role and accurately processing transactions is of fundamental importance.

Key Responsibilities

• Actively engage customers by offering support, suggesting items for purchase, answering questions, and resolving concerns in a friendly manner
• Assist with stock levels, shelf planning and replenishment on a regular basis
• Understand that our business is a retail store and that flexibility is required with scheduling
• Operate in a buddy training capacity with new staff to support standards and growth
• Support Team Lead group with larger overarching tasks, taking ownership where needed
• Support the process of receiving, counting, tagging, and organizing inventory and customer orders
• Prepare merchandise for sale and assist in the promotion of products and specials
• Merchandise and keep team informed of product sell-through observations
• When helping at the satellite campuses liaise with Buyers at Main campus to ensure students and staff needs are met
• Enact loss-prevention strategies in order to support a secure shopping environment
• Process sales and web orders in an efficient manner, modelling accuracy
• Support the picking and fulfillment of web and special orders

Skills & Abilities

• Ability to work independently when needed
• Detail orientated and an agile learner with the ability to retain product knowledge and confidently assist customers
• Experience in back of house retail operations (receiving, overstock, replenishment, etc)
• Excellent skills in customer service, communication, and teamwork with a focus on doing things better every day
• The ability to learn and follow established departmental guidelines and procedures
• Flexibility with scheduling, including the ability to work increased hours during peak periods and some evening and weekend shifts
• Full comprehension of Microsoft Office suite
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. (30lbs often)
• Merchandising Experience would be an asset

Qualifications

Note: Remuneration for part-time positions will be pro-rated based on FTE (full-time equivalent).
