Job summary

COMPASS GROUP CANADA is seeking a Custodian/Janitor to maintain clean and orderly facilities. Responsibilities include stripping and waxing floors, washing walls, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces to support a safe environment for staff and visitors.

The role requires 1 year of housekeeping or custodian experience, with emphasis on floor care. The position offers 12hr day shifts and a 14 days on/off rotation, with travel accommodations provided and benefits after a probation period.

Qualifications

• Experience in housekeeping or custodial work is required or preferred.
• Ability to follow safety and infection control procedures.
• Capable of physical tasks and operating cleaning equipment.

Responsibilities

• Strip, wax and buff floors and shampoo carpets.
• Collect and dispose of trash according to procedures.
• Dust, damp mop and sanitize floors and surfaces.
• Move and rearrange equipment, clean walls, glass and furniture.
• Clean assigned areas and ensure a safe environment.
• Identify areas needing cleaning and complete tasks promptly.
• Follow supervisor directions and complete all tasks assigned.
• Maintain cleanliness to support patients, visitors and staff.
• Adhere to shift requirements and rotation schedule.

Job description

Custodian/Janitor you will be responsible for keeping buildings clean and orderly, and performing heavy cleaning duties, including cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Stripping and wax floors
• Collect and dispose of trash following approved procedures and infection control plans
• Dust and damp mops floors following approved procedures
• Move equipment and furniture for proper cleaning and place furniture back in correct placement
• Clean assigned areas with the use of assigned materials and equipment. Sanitize all surfaces.
• Wash walls, windows, furniture, baseboards, and other items to maintain a clean, safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff
• Seek out areas requiring cleaning; take initiative to complete the task
• Complete all tasks assigned by supervisor
• Strip, scrub, buff and refinish floors, shampoo carpet

Qualifications:

• 1 year of housekeeping/custodian experience
• 2 years' experience, stripping and waxing of floors
• WHMIS and BSW Certifications an asset
• Good command of English language, both verbal and written
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
• Physical ability to perform all aspects of the job

Position Requirements:

• A full and valid Driver's License
• Pass a Drug & Alcohol Test
• Shift: 12hr/Day
