Job summary

ESS Canada is hiring a Custodian/Janitor for a remote BC site. The role involves cleaning buildings, floors, walls and glass, and performing heavy cleaning duties at a remote camp with a 12-hour day shift and 14/14 rotation. Travel and accommodations are provided; benefits after 3 months.

Must have 1 year of experience and 2 years floor stripping/waxing. Final wage is $20–$20.50 CAD per hour, with compensation based on skills and internal equity.

Qualifications

• 1 year of housekeeping/custodian experience
• 2 years' experience stripping and waxing floors
• WHMIS and BSW certifications are an asset
• Good command of English, verbal and written
• Able to follow written and verbal instructions
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
• Physical ability to perform all aspects of the job

Responsibilities

• Strip, wax floors and refinish as required
• Collect and dispose of trash per procedures and infection control plans
• Dust and damp mop floors following procedures
• Move equipment and furniture as needed and replace after cleaning
• Clean assigned areas with appropriate materials and sanitize surfaces
• Wash walls, windows, furniture, baseboards and related items
• Identify areas needing cleaning and complete tasks
• Complete tasks assigned by supervisor
• Strip, scrub, buff floors and shampoo carpets

Description

As the Custodian/Janitor you will be responsible for keeping buildings clean and orderly, and performing heavy cleaning duties, including cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Stripping and wax floors
• Collect and dispose of trash following approved procedures and infection control plans
• Dust and damp mops floors following approved procedures
• Move equipment and furniture for proper cleaning and place furniture back in correct placement
• Clean assigned areas with the use of assigned materials and equipment. Sanitize all surfaces.
• Wash walls, windows, furniture, baseboards, and other items to maintain a clean, safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff
• Seek out areas requiring cleaning; take initiative to complete the task
• Complete all tasks assigned by supervisor
• Strip, scrub, buff and refinish floors, shampoo carpet

Qualifications:

• 1 year of housekeeping/custodian experience
• 2 years' experience, stripping and waxing of floors
