The Crossing Guard Rover position with the Town of Ajax supports the safe operation of designated school crossings. Rovers mentor Crossing Guards, coordinate coverage for absences, and provide crossing coverage as needed to ensure pedestrians of all ages cross safely with friendly customer service.

The Crossing Guard Rover supports the safe and effective operation of designated school crossings throughout the Town of Ajax. The position mentors assigned Crossing Guards by modelling proper crossing techniques, coordinating coverage for absences, and providing crossing coverage as required. Rovers ensure pedestrians of all ages cross safely at designated locations while providing friendly customer service and remaining alert to activity at the crossing.
Job Duties Include The following responsibilities and duties of this position include but is not limited to: Direct and supervise the movement of pedestrians across the roadway Monitor vehicle and pedestrian traffic management at the crossing Coordination of coverage for Crossing Guard absence(s) Mentors assigned Crossing Guards by modelling proper crossing techniques Educate pedestrians on safe crossing practices Respond to emergency issues involving vehicles and pedestrian traffic Report safety issues to supervisor Provide customer service to the pedestrians and the public Champion of safety in the community on behalf of the Town of Ajax
Previous experience as a Crossing Guard is considered an asset Ability to use email, cellphone technology is required Able to stand at a crossing for up to five hours per day in all types of weather Able to work in adverse weather conditions including extremes of heat, humidity, cold, rain, snow, sleet, and wind and be capable of working under all types of road conditions, exposure to traffic noise and exhaust from vehicles Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public Able to remain calm and use good judgment in emergency situations Able to work independently without supervision Valid Class "G" Ontario Driver's License Must provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening Check
