Job summary

City of Mission is seeking a Crisis Support Worker to assist victims and witnesses of crime and trauma. You will respond to incidents with police services, provide emotional support, assist with notifications, and liaise with community agencies to access services.

Based in Mission, you must live within 30 minutes of the RCMP Detachment and be prepared for on-call shifts. Auxiliary role pays an hourly rate of $32.56 CAD plus 4.4% in lieu of benefits, rising to 12.4% after probation.

Job Description

Join the City of Mission as a Crisis Support Worker and contribute to our community by supporting victims and witnesses of crime and trauma. In this crucial role, you will work closely with police services and community organizations to provide specialized assistance. This position is based in Mission, British Columbia, and candidates must live within 30 minutes of the Mission RCMP Detachment.

As a Crisis Support Worker, you will provide direct support services at incidents like crimes, domestic disputes, and serious accidents. You will be responsible for attending police call-outs, delivering emotional support, assisting with next-of-kin notifications, and liaising with local agencies to secure additional services. Your role also includes accompanying victims to medical facilities and ensuring their transportation needs are met. You will also provide field training and guidance to volunteers who assist during crises, as well as maintaining accurate and detailed records.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who have completed at least the 12th grade with additional courses in social sciences, such as sociology, psychology, or criminology. A strong background working within police environments or victim services programs is essential, alongside a valid BC Driver’s License and RCMP Enhanced Reliability Clearance. Knowledge in crisis intervention and experience with community resources are key to this role.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong crisis intervention skills, the ability to work effectively under stress, and excellent relationship-building talents with both internal stakeholders and external partners. Competency in detailed record keeping and case file preparation related to the work is also required.

Additional Information

This is an auxiliary, on-call role with no set schedule of hours. Auxiliary employees must be flexible and available to work on short notice during these periods: Monday through Friday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 AM, and on weekends, covering Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, as well as nights from 6:00 PM to 7:00 AM when needed. The 2025 hourly rate of pay is $32.56 plus 4.4% in lieu of all benefits increasing to 12.4% upon completion of the probationary period.
