POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY

To meet the needs of our fellow staff, residents and community in a professional manner meeting the highest standard of safety, etiquette, service and hospitality

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • To conduct oneself in a pleasant, professional, client and staff focused manner
  • To assist and support clients, community and staff; fielding basic inquiries, providing information, guidance internal referrals within the framework of established policies and procedures
  • To assist residents to understand, and ensure they comply with, the various restrictions of the facility in a firm but polite and diplomatic manner
  • To provide basic problem solving and dealing with problem clients and individuals requiring discipline, without force, in a quiet and efficient manner
  • To participate in facility or professional group seminars and staff meeting to increase knowledge and program development as required
  • As assigned:
    • answer main switchboard and ensure that all telephone calls are answered and redirected in a proper, polite and helpful manner
    • monitor computerized security and camera systems for the safety and security of the staff and residents
    • handle cash, issue receipts and perform basic clerical functions and data‑entry
    • conduct rounds / physical checks of the building to ensure staff, resident and facility safety and security according to established policy
    • To perform emergency services communication (police, fire, ambulance) and to perform functions outlined in the fire plan and safety procedures, helping to ensure the safety of staff and residents
    • To prepare "Occurrence Reports", logs, data entry and statistics as required, according to policies and procedure
    • To maintain awareness of any problems (medical, behavioural, or other) experienced by clients and report pertinent information in desk log and to supervisor
    • Perform other related duties as required
WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is a security‑related position that requires one to work in a stressful environment, often dealing with clients and community in crisis situations brought about by diverse problems. The ability to function independently, frequently under pressure whilst managing multiple concurrent tasks including emergency situations is an on‑going expectation of this position.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Completion of Grade 12 or the equivalent education, training and experience
  • Current First Aid/CPR training and willingness for Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention training
  • Proven understanding of addiction issues, mental health issues & homelessness
  • A mature individual, who is willing to work alongside the Belkin House Mission
  • Strong interpersonal behavioural skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Previous experience in shelter, security and/or hospitality industries
  • A proven ability to handle and record cash transactions
  • To submit to an enhanced security screening
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Base knowledge of Privacy issues
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
SALARY AND TERMS

Salary: Per Collective Agreement

Terms: Casual, On‑call

DAYS & TIME: Must be available to work all various shifts including days, evenings, overnight, weekends, and statutory holidays.
