Job summary

Scotiabank is seeking a Credit Analyst in Toronto to contribute to Credit/Risk and Account Maintenance within Canadian Wealth Management. You will generate and interpret reports, approve orders, and monitor market activity to minimize risk.

The role requires CIRO licensing, strong analytical skills, and experience with trading, operations or compliance. Collaboration with Online Brokerage staff and other departments is essential.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years direct investment industry experience; CIRO member firm preferred.
• College Diploma or University Degree required.
• CIRO IR license required; Options license required.

Responsibilities

• Generate, modify, and interpret reports to identify accounts with credit/market risk and policy violations.
• Approve orders above set limits and guide staff/clients.
• Implement/adjust trading and banking restrictions in margin, cash, and registered accounts.
• Monitor market activity and evaluate accounts, take corrective actions as needed.
• Liquidate/purchase securities as required.
• Investigate discrepancies to minimize risk.
• Issue and follow up margin call notices daily and manage cash-based accounts.
• Analyze large daily/weekly reports and act before market close.
• Approve various payments (wires, transfers, etc.).
• Complete sundry duties as assigned.

As a Credit Analyst, you will contribute to the overall success of the Credit/Risk, Account Maintenance, Financial Canadian Wealth Management business ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. You will ensure all activities conducted are compliant with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

• Generate, modify, and interpret various reports to identify accounts that pose credit and market risk to the firm as well as violate industry and firm policies
• Answer inquiries, explain policies and procedures, approve orders above set limits, update relevant information, and provide guidance to Online Brokerage staff, internal departments, and clients
• Implement and remove trading and banking restrictions in margin, cash, and registered accounts, based on thorough analysis of account and trading patterns and activity
• Monitor market activity for security price fluctuations and evaluate accounts holding the position and take any corrective action necessary
• Liquidate and purchase securities as required
• Identify and update securities with incorrect loan values in multiple systems and applications
• Investigate non-routine problems and discrepancies to determine risk and exposure and make decisions to minimize financial impact
• Issue and follow up approximately two hundred margin call notices daily and manage similar number of cash-based accounts
• Analyze and scrutinize large daily and weekly reports and action before the markets close each day
• Approve various type of payments (wires, abb’s, eft’s, cheque, transfers etc.)
• Complete sundry duties as assigned

Skills

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:

• A minimum of 3 to 5 years direct relevant investment industry experience, preferably with a CIRO member firm, in a relevant functional area (e.g., trading, operations, sales, audit)
• College Diploma or University Degree
• Licensed as an Investment Representative (IR) through CIRO is required
• Licensed as an Investment Representative (IR) with Options through CIRO is required
• Expert level of market knowledge, policies and procedures for decision making and education of support areas
• Strong Computer skills including knowledge of Thomson One, Bloomberg, and MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Access, Word)
• Excellent people and problem-solving skills
• Strong time management and teamwork skills to accurately accomplish specific tasks within strict deadlines
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent analytical skills, sound business judgment, and creativity
