For the Cost Analyst Co-Op position, we are looking for a candidate that is interested in large capital resource construction projects with a focus on engineering, construction, cost, and schedule. Through this placement, the student will develop an understanding of working in a professional environment and gain exposure to Teck’s Projects group delivery strategy and how it is applied and implemented within Teck’s operations.

Reporting to the Manager, Cost Control, the Co-Op student will implement project accounting methods and procedures, and maintain cost control systems on Teck’s Red Dog projects (RDM004 Aktigiruq & Anarraaq Extension Program, RDM015 Aktigiruq & Anarraaq Access Road, HVC004 Highland Valley Copper Mine Life Extension). They will also facilitate contractor invoice review, approval, and payment, work with various project delivery departments including engineering, construction, project management, and assist with various tasks that are an integral part of this process

If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term. You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Salary Range: $4000 - $5100 / Month

Salary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co-op experiences completed.

Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Monitor and record project expenses and cost data into Teck’s cost tracking system, Unifier, to facilitate payment requirements
  • Maintain and supervise the invoice and PPC (progress payment certificate) approval workflow in both SharePoint Online and Unifier with efficiency, accuracy, and speed
  • Facilitate the month end accrual and reconciliation processes working with the project Cost Control Teams and Operations Finance
  • Collaborate with Team Members from Finance to understand cash flow and payment schedules
  • Work with the Cost Control, Scheduling/Planning and Estimating team to understand budgeting, project timelines, and incurred cost flow
  • Collaborate with Contracts/Procurement members to understand project requirements and contract/purchase order commitments
Qualifications:
  • Working towards a degree in Engineering or Finance
  • Organized, adaptive, and enthusiastic learner
  • Attention to detail, punctual, and can work independently as well as in a team
  • Interested in learning about the various aspects of project delivery
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office Products specifically Outlook and Excel
  • Exposure to an ERP system would be an asset but is not required
