The Corporate Tax Manager role is being hired for an affiliate company of Matcor-Matsu Group, A.R.G. Group Inc.

A.R.G. Group Inc. (“ARG Group”) is a privately owned Canadian business headquartered in Vaughan, Ontario. It has been owned and operated by the family since its inception. Over the past 50 years, ARG Group has evolved from a construction contractor to a diverse group of companies involved in:

  • Commercial Property Construction & Management across North America (Canada, US, and Mexico).
  • Residential Development in the GTA and Southwestern Ontario.
  • Automotive Components & Infrastructure Equipment design, engineering, and manufacturing.
  • Captive Insurance.
  • Financial Asset Holdings & Investments, including solar energy and carbon capture.

The role offers a unique opportunity to work with the G2 executive team to design and implement structures and to improve business processes to ensure a successful management and wealth transition.

Role:

The Corporate Tax Manager is a key member of the corporate team, overseeing the holding companies (top of the house) and the family office. This professional will work closely with the CFO and the corporate controller, not only to handle routine tax compliance but also to add value to various functions unique to the family holding structure. The professional should have a strong work ethic, be hands-on, detail-oriented, able to interact with various stakeholders, implement planning, build relationships with financial leaders of the operating divisions, think from the owners' perspective, maintain the integrity of the family holding structure, be flexible/adaptable to changing requirements, and possess curiosity and an adventurous mindset.

Detailed Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance

  • Responsible for preparing T2, T3, T4, T5, T5013, and other Canadian tax compliance documents related to the corporate holding companies and various operating entities under common ownership;
  • Preparation of Canadian tax elections related to reorganization transactions;
  • Lead CRA audits with a risk-based approach and address CRA correspondence;
  • Manage CRA online accounts;
  • Assist with US tax compliance and tax provision work;
  • Handle Ontario annual return filings and other related compliance filings in Canada;
  • Manage US state registered agent services concerning US state compliance filings (non-tax related);
  • Maintain financial records and tax filings for the family office (personal, personal holdco, and family trust);
  • Manage Canadian, US, and Mexican tax advisors;
  • Implement continuous process improvements to find tax savings or efficiencies related to Canadian, US, and Mexican operations;
  • Collaborate with the CFO on estate planning matters, including life insurance strategies, family trust rules, will review, and design;
  • Work with the CFO on corporate transactions;
  • Proactively manage Canadian and US corporate income tax estimates and monitor installments, including updates of installments.

    Treasury

    • Assist the Corporate Controller with treasury-related matters, including cash flow analysis and projections;
    • Draft fund flow memos and journal entries, coordinating with counsel and advisors on cash movements.

    Other Special Projects

    • Collaborate with the CFO on any special projects outside the above scope.

    Requirements:

    • CPA/CA designation with 5+ years of relevant experience;
    • Experience at an accounting firm, private company group, or enterprise is a plus;
    • If from an accounting firm, minimum senior associate level required;
    • Exposure to life insurance taxation is a plus;
    • Familiarity with holding company/family office reporting structures;
    • Advanced Excel skills;
    • Extensive knowledge of Taxprep T1, T2, and Forms;

    Five days in the office during the initial transition period (flexibility can be further discussed after stabilization of current functions).
