Job summary
The University of Waterloo's Chemical Engineering Analytical Services Laboratory seeks a leader to oversee analytical operations and safety. You will manage equipment, perform analytical testing for campus researchers and external clients, supervise users, and guide instrument upgrades.
You will develop SOPs, train staff, and collaborate on proposals for new instrumentation, while ensuring compliance, inventory control, and cost recovery through transparent billing.
Qualifications
- PhD in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry required.
- Minimum three years of analytical lab equipment use and maintenance experience.
- Focus on client satisfaction and a strong safety culture.
Responsibilities
- Manage the Chemical Engineering Analytical Services Laboratory and ensure safe operations.
- Provide analytical services and consult with researchers and external clients.
- Supervise lab users and manage equipment usage, maintenance and upgrades.
- Develop SOPs, training programs, and documentation for lab operations.
- Assist in acquiring new instrumentation and preparing equipment grant proposals.
- Maintain lab safety, inventory, and billing processes; coordinate with department finance.
