Responsibilities

  • Provide financial, grants, and administrative support for Harbour Centre units.

  • Liaise with Managers and Directors/Chairs to support operations.
  • Assist with payroll documentation and timesheet reporting.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at Simon Fraser University (SFU) Vancouver encompasses the School for International Studies, the Department of Gerontology, the School of Public Policy, and the Urban Studies Program. The Coordinator, Finance, Research Grants and Administration provides financial, research grants and administrative support for these Harbour Centreunits.

About the Role

The Coordinator, Finance, Research Grants and Administration provides financial, research grants and administrative support for the Harbour Centre Units (Gerontology, International Studies, School of Public Policy and Urban Studies). The role is based in Gerontology, which also supports the Gloria Gutman Gerontology Research Centre (GGGRC). The role provides advice and information on research administration policies as well as the financial administration of its research, endowment and specific purpose funds. The role facilitates the financial, reporting and administrative requirements for various grants and is responsible for developing and maintaining all financial records, processing expenditures, and reviewing and reconciling grant and project accounts. The role provides administrative and operational support to Managers and the Directors/Chairs of the academic programs under the shared administrative support model for Harbour Centre (hub). The role effectively liaises with other administrative staff roles to support the units' operations, including assisting with the administration of payroll documentation and timesheet reporting.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and three years of related experience in research grant and project administration, financial administration, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Good knowledge of financial administration and accounting processes and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of research concepts, principles, procedures and terminology.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and conflict management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral, written, and intercultural), and presentation skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Proficient in the use of standard office applications, enterprise-level information systems, desktop publishing and content management systems.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment, initiative, diplomacy and tact.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies.
