Job summary

Sienna Senior Living is hiring a Cook at Glen Rouge Community in Scarborough, ON. The role involves preparing meals, managing dietary requirements, and maintaining food quality in a care setting.

The successful candidate will have a Grade 12, Safe Food Handling and/or Smart Serve, and experience in institutional food service. Valid work status for Canada is required and the role includes benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Must have Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve.
• Experience cooking in institutional/health care/restaurant/hospitality.
• Legally eligible to work in Canada or have work permit.
• Vulnerable Sector/Criminal Record Check as required by province.

Responsibilities

• Set up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
• Prepare meals and snacks according to recipes and menus.
• Prepare diets at appropriate temperatures and in portion-controlled quantities.
• Monitor quality of food supplies and advise on corrective actions.
• In the absence of the team leader, manage departmental operations andOrdering supplies.
• Assist in orientation and training of new team members.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

As a Cook your typical day will impact in the following ways:

• Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation

• Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu document as provided

• Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities

• Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action

• In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including enu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers

• Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members

• Performing other duties as assigned

Must haves:

• Grade 12 minimum education required

• A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate

• Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality

• Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence

•You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work permit

•You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check applicable to the appropriate province

Additional qualifications that would be considered an asset:

• Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willing to Red Seal certify
