Job summary

Sienna Senior Living in Mississauga is hiring a Cook under the collective agreement. The role involves food preparation, adherence to diet requirements, and maintaining quality in a health care setting.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 minimum education required.
  • Valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate.
  • Experience cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work permit.
  • Must pass a Vulnerable Sector Check/Criminal Record Check for province.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
  • Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets and recipes.
  • Providing for prescribed diets at appropriate temperatures and in portion-controlled quantities.
  • Monitoring quality of food supplies and advising on corrective action.
  • In absence of team leader, managing departmental operations including enu changes and purchases.
  • Assisting in orientation and training of new team members.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Typical Day Responsibilities:
  • Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation
  • Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu document as provided
  • Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities
  • Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action
  • In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including enu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers
  • Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members
  • Performing other duties as assigned
Must Haves:
  • Grade 12 minimum education required
  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate
  • Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence
  • You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work permit
  • You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check applicable to the appropriate province
Additional Qualifications That Would Be Considered an Asset:
  • Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willing to Red Seal certify
