Job summary

Sienna Senior Living in Kingston, ON is seeking a Cook for a temporary part-time days schedule. The role involves meal prep, following production sheets, and ensuring diets are prepared safely and to quality standards.

You will set up equipment, monitor food quality, assist with orientation of new staff, and perform other duties as assigned. Must have Grade 12 and Safe Food Handling / Smart Serve certificates, and be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Qualifications

• Experience in cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality settings.

Responsibilities

• Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
• Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu documents.
• Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities.
• Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advising team leader on issues and corrective actions.
• In the absence of the team leader, assuming responsibility for departmental operations including changes and requisitions.
• Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

As a Cook your typical day will impact in the following ways:

• Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation
• Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu document as provided
• Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities
• Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action
• In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including enu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers
• Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members
• Performing other duties as assigned

Must haves:

• Grade 12 minimum education required
• A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate
• Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality
• Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence
• You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work permit
• You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check applicable to the appropriate province

Additional qualifications that would be considered an asset:

• Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willing to Red Seal certify
