Job summary

Sienna Senior Living in Kingston, Ontario seeks a Cook for a temporary, part-time role. You will set up equipment, prepare meals per production sheets, and ensure prescribed diets are served at correct temperatures.

Monitor food quality, assist with menu changes, and help train new team members. Requires Grade 12, Safe Food Handling/Smart Serve, and institutional/healthcare cooking experience; legal work eligibility and checks required.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 minimum education required.
• Valid Safe Food Handling and/or Smart Serve certificates.
• Experience cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality settings.
• Legally eligible to work in Canada and able to pass Vulnerable Sector/Criminal Record checks.

Responsibilities

• Set up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
• Prepare meals and snacks according to production sheets and recipes.
• Provide for prescribed diets at appropriate temperatures and in portion-controlled quantities.
• Monitor quality of food supplies and notify the team leader of issues.
• Assume departmental operations in the absence of the team leader, including menu changes and purchasing.
• Assist in orientation and training of new team members.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

As a Cook your typical day will impact in the following ways:

• Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation


• Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu document as provided


• Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities


• Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action


• In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including enu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers


• Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members


• Performing other duties as assigned

Must Haves

• Grade 12 minimum education required


• A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate


• Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality


• Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence


• You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work permit


• You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check applicable to the appropriate province

Additional Qualifications That Would Be Considered An Asset

• Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willing to Red Seal certify
