Job summary

Sienna Senior Living in Ottawa, Ontario is seeking a part-time Cook to join our team. The role supports resident meals, follows production sheets and maintains food safety standards.

The position offers bi-weekly 30 hours, a competitive rate of $22.18 per hour under the collective agreement, and benefits such as health, RRSP, and opportunities for growth within a values-driven culture.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 minimum education required.
  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate.
  • Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check (Ontario) and Criminal Records Check (British Columbia).
  • Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and Red Seal certification is a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
  • Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu documentation.
  • Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities.
  • Maintaining quality of food supplies and advising on corrective action.
  • In the absence of the team leader, assuming responsibility for departmental operations including menu changes and purchases.
  • Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

As a Cook your typical day will impact in the following ways:
  • Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation
  • Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu document as provided

  • Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action
  • In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including menu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers
  • Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members
  • Performing other duties as assigned
Must haves:
  • Grade 12 minimum education required
  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate
  • Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check. Applicable to Ontario applicants
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Criminal Records Check. Applicable to British Columbia applicants
Bonus points for having:
