Job summary

Sienna Senior Living is seeking a Cook for Cawthra Gardens Community in Mississauga to prepare meals in accordance with menus and diet plans for residents. Starting rate is $24.94 per hour under the collective agreement.

The role emphasizes safe handling, portion control and consistent quality, with opportunities to grow within a compassionate care environment. The successful candidate will join a team dedicated to enriching daily life for residents, participating in daily kitchen operations,

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 minimum education required.
  • Valid Safe Food Handling and/or Smart Serve certificates.
  • Experience cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality settings.
  • Pass Vulnerable Sector Check (Ontario) and Criminal Records Check (BC).
  • Willingness to pursue Red Seal certification is a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Set up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
  • Prepare meals and snacks according to production sheets and recipes.
  • Provide meals according to prescribed diets and portion sizes.
  • Monitor quality of food supplies and report issues.
  • In absence of the team leader, handle department operations and purchasing.
  • Assist in orientation and training of new team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The first day will impact in the following ways:


  • Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation

  • Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu document as provided

  • Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities

  • Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action

  • In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including menu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers

  • Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members

  • Performing other duties as assigned


Must Haves


  • Grade 12 minimum education required

  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate

  • Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality

  • Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence

  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check. Applicable to Ontario applicants

  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Criminal Records Check. Applicable to British Columbia applicants


Bonus Points For Having


  • Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willing to Red Seal certify
