Qualifications

Position Description

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Controls Engineering, the Controls Engineer will lead continuous improvement initiatives, oversee infrastructure automation upgrades, and enhance the capabilities of technical staff. This role involves expertise in PLC, HMI, SCADA, VFD, servo systems, Ethernet networking, and SQL Server, with support across US and Canadian plants, including international travel.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Troubleshoot controls automation issues using PLCs, HMIs, Ethernet, and I/O networks, identifying root causes and implementing solutions.
  2. Perform predictive maintenance analysis using condition monitoring tools to prevent breakdowns.
  3. Analyze performance trends, conduct root cause analysis, and drive improvements.
  4. Lead infrastructure automation upgrades and develop disaster recovery strategies.
  5. Develop and deliver training to Controls Technicians, Electricians, and Instrumentation Technicians.
  6. Coordinate installation of new equipment, optimize production efficiency, and oversee projects including design, compliance, and construction management.
  7. Support plant utilities and ensure safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance.
  8. Manage projects related to new processes, utilities, and facility enhancements to improve operational efficiency.
  9. Design control systems, develop P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and manage documentation.
  10. Identify opportunities for plant performance, quality, and safety improvements; support capital planning.
  11. Provide technical support for equipment and process improvements.
  12. Work collaboratively within teams to support company objectives.

Education and Experience:

  • Degree or diploma in Electronics, Automation, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in Rockwell Automation PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, Servo Systems.
  • Experience with RS Logix, FactoryTalk, DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, SQL Server is preferred.
  • Licensed Industrial Electrician and experience in food processing are pluses.

Working Conditions:

  • Attention to detail in fast-paced environments.
  • Flexibility to work nights/weekends as needed.

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimum 50% travel expected.
