Job summary

YMCA Calgary is seeking a Health & Safety Advisor for a 12-month contract to help create safe environments for staff, volunteers and program participants. You will report to the Director, Health, Safety and Risk and work with Duty Managers to implement safeguarding, life safety systems and safety training.

Ideal candidates have 1-2 years in OHS, a post-secondary credential in Health, Safety & Environment, and the ability to travel among YMCA Calgary locations.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years’ experience in OHS or related field.
• Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certification in Health, Safety and Environment, or relevant education.
• Solid understanding of OHS principles and their application.
• Supervisory/management experience is an asset.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to travel between YMCA Calgary branches and sites.
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C cert within last 12 months.
• Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.
• Three professional references.

Responsibilities

• Advise staff and volunteers on Alberta OHS alignment and procedures.
• Support audits, inspections, training and hazard assessments.
• Lead investigations and reporting; coordinate stakeholders as required.
• Support asset management and contractor safety management.
• Deliver face-to-face health and safety training.
