Job summary

YMCA Calgary is seeking a CCH Building Operator for a contract full-time role starting September 2026 and ending May 2027. You will maintain HVAC systems, grounds, and building services across multiple facilities, with on-call rotation and a valid driving license.

The position requires hands-on maintenance experience, basic plumbing, strong safety and communication skills, and the ability to work weekends. Competitive benefits are provided by the Association and community impact is meaningful.

  • Mechanical inclination with basic plumbing knowledge.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C within the last 12 months.
  • Clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Three professional references.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain HVAC systems and perform responsive maintenance.
  • Grounds maintenance: grass, trails, snow removal.
  • Provide repairs and preventative maintenance on buildings and equipment.
  • Uphold interior spaces with planned facility maintenance (plumbing, lighting, painting).
  • Respond to day-to-day work orders and prioritize per safety requirements.
  • Handle deliveries and provide housekeeping support as required.
  • Admin tasks: Angus System work orders, utility readings, logs.
  • Ensure effective communication within the Branch and Asset Department.
  • Complete mandatory annual training (First Aid, CPR, etc.).
  • On-call rotation for Camp Chief Hector YMCA; valid driving license.

What qualifications are we looking for?

  • Able to work shifts/weekends.
  • Able to do physical labor and repetitive tasks.
  • Experience with facility maintenance, including HVAC knowledge.
  • Mechanical inclination including knowledge of basic plumbing.
  • Swimming pool maintenance experience is considered an asset.
  • Leadership, a good work ethic, planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as able to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Three professional references.
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Be responsible for maintenance of HVAC systems - Responsive maintenance and problem solving as required.
  • Be responsible for grounds maintenance including grass cutting, trail clearing, and snow removal.
  • Provide repairs and preventative maintenance on all buildings and equipment. Additional responsive maintenance and problem solving as required.
  • Be responsible for the upkeep and appearance of all interior spaces, with planned facility maintenance. Tasks would include plumbing, changing light bulbs, painting, and minor refurbishment. Repairs to all interior and exterior fixtures and fittings as required.
  • Provide day-to-day facility maintenance/repair as directed and required. Respond to day-to-day work orders as received, prioritize when appropriate based on code requirements, life safeties, and guest relevant needs.
  • Take deliveries and provide housekeeping support as required.
  • Be responsible for daily administration tasks such as Angus System work order and preventative maintenance updates and completions, utility meter readings and communication log updates.
  • Ensure effective communication, both within the Branch but also across the Asset Department
  • Ensure all mandatory training is current and updated yearly. This would include Standard First Aid & CPR, Emergency Procedures, SAM Training, Hazard Assessment, and relevant job-specific training.
  • Full support of housekeeping as required. This would include the maintenance of any equipment and assistance for specific tasks that require additional help.
  • Part of the on-call rotation for Camp Chief Hector YMCA; Valid Driving License.
