Job description

Join the team that is changing the promo industry

commonsku is changing the way businesses within the $25 Billion promotional products space work. We are the leading platform for promo product distributors–combining CRM, Order Management, and eCommerce into one sophisticated hub.

But, we don't just sell software; we believe in helping our customers build better businesses. Through collaboration, connection, and our skummunity (commonsku-community, get it?), we are elevating our customers and the world of branded merchandise. We are thought and brand leaders, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in promo.

Our culture and values

Our values – Community First, Ten Steps Ahead, Fast Forward, and Delightful Work – drive us to create an exceptional experience for our customers, our partners, our industry, and our team.

We believe in the power of a team of nice people who are great at what they do. It’s pretty simple, really! We love creativity, a great sense of humour, enthusiasm, collaboration, risk-taking, optimism, and diverse opinions.

We are remote-first and maintain our headquarters in Toronto, ON. Our team spans across Canada and into the US. We gather together in Toronto twice a year, so no matter where we live, we get to spend time together to collaborate, learn, and celebrate!

And we’re growing! We’re looking for our next:

Content Marketing Manager

As part of our small but mighty Content team and the broader Marketing team, you will be an accelerator for the impact of our content. With the leading podcast (skucast), newsletter (the Backpack), and events (skucon and skucamp) in the branded merchandise industry, commonsku is all about elevating the conversation about promotion products. As the Content Marketing Manager, you will play a key role in production and promotion. But more than that, you’ll be instrumental in packaging our content to have a wider reach, a greater impact, and to be a driver of business growth.

As a Content Marketer, you handle a high volume, multi-medium, fast-paced environment with aplomb and humour. And if you can do that, while also balancing creativity with analysis and organization with innovation, this just might be the role for you.

You’ll work on:

  • Content Production
    • Coordinating podcast recording sessions and ensuring that all guests are prepped and prepared for recording, including gathering and polishing all supporting materials, like guest bios.
    • Managing podcasting editing (either using your audio editing skills or by working with third-party editors) and publishing process.
    • Editing our newsletter, The Backpack, to ensure that all articles are clear, engaging, free from errors.
    • Managing links in the newsletter and blog, including updating the back catalog.
    • Writing and editing blog posts, ensuring they are clear, engaging, and SEO-optimized.
    • Support live event production through coordinating speakers, speaker bios, presentation materials, and talking points in advance of events to ensure smooth day-of execution working closely with those speakers to design and finalize decks to event and brand standards.
    • Managing the creation and distribution of content for events (e.g., event blogs, social media posts, on-site live streams, etc.).
    • Post-event, creating content recaps (blog posts, social media highlights, videos, etc.) to maximize the longevity of live events for growth.
    • Overseeing the content calendar for all digital channels and ensuring all content aligns with business objectives, marketing campaigns, or product launches.
    • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure content is on-brand and consistent across all platforms.
  • Content Promotion
    • In collaboration with the Community Marketing and Marketing Campaign experts on our team, promoting the show and each episode through social media, the blog, and newsletters.
    • Ensuring content is repurposed across channels (e.g., blog posts turned into podcasts, event content turned into blog recaps or social posts).
    • Capturing the attention of prospects by promoting content in the right places at the right time, based on your analysis of audience trends and habits.
  • Content Optimization
    • Monitoring content performance and analyzing KPIs to propose best possible strategies and tactics for maximizing content impact, and adjusting strategy as necessary.
    • Optimizing the back catalogue of content for search engines and AI/LLM search.
    • Drive business growth by leveraging content to attract and engage prospects in our ICPs.

With the experience we think will help you succeed:

  • 3+ years of previous experience in high volume marketing content role, news or media publication role, or similar.
  • Previous experience in a content marketing role in a high growth SaaS B2B environment is a plus.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Experience with producing podcasts, including publishing and promotion. (Experience editing is a bonus!)
  • Expertise in SEO and content optimization tools (like Ahrefs, SEMrush, or Yoast).
  • Strong project management skills, including managing multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Previous experience with or familiarity with event coordination and production.
  • Exceptional communication skills for collaborating with speakers, content teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Analytical bias, with knowledge of Google Analytics, social media metrics, and similar tools.
  • A great sense of humour and passion for sharing compelling stories with entrepreneurs.

Compensation, Benefits, and Work Environment:

  • This role is open to candidates based in and legally eligible to work in Canada, with the ideal candidate located in Toronto. We are open to candidates in other parts of Canada, with the exception of Quebec.
  • We believe in paying fairly and being proactive about ensuring our team is rewarded for growth and innovation. The starting salary for this role is $65,000 to $80,000 per year, plus 10% bonus opportunity, with the initial salary offered based on candidate experience and skill set.
  • We offer benefits coverage for employees, a group RRSP plan with employer contributions, annual office closure between December 25 and January 1, parental leave top-up, and a flexible work environment that supports individuals, families, and people of diverse needs.
