Job description

Mississauga, ON | Full-Time | Permanent | $25/hour+ based on experience

Do you know construction materials, suppliers, and how to get the best deal?

DBNC Group is looking for a Construction Purchasing & Procurement Coordinator to join our growing team in Mississauga.

We're looking for someone who is well spoken and confident on the phone, a natural talker that understands that purchasing for construction is about more than simply placing orders.

You’ll be responsible for sourcing construction materials, communicating with suppliers, comparing quotes, negotiating pricing, coordinating deliveries, tracking orders, and making sure our construction teams have what they need to keep projects moving.

If you've worked in construction purchasing, procurement, estimating, construction administration, project coordination, building materials, or supplier/vendor management, this could be an excellent opportunity to grow with a third-generation family business.

We're especially interested in someone who is comfortable picking up the phone, talking to suppliers, negotiating pricing, and finding solutions when materials, pricing, or deliveries don't go according to plan.

About DBNC Group

DBNC Group is a third-generation family business with interests across construction, self-storage, real estate, software, and hospitality.

Our construction operations work on commercial and high-rise projects, and our purchasing team plays an important role in keeping projects supplied and moving forward.

You’ll work directly with company leadership and our construction/operations teams. Your work will have a direct impact on project costs, material availability, supplier relationships, and project timelines.

We’re not a large corporate bureaucracy.

We value people who take ownership, communicate directly, solve problems, and look for better ways to get things done.

Our culture is simple:

Work Hard. Play Hard. Rest Hard.

The Role

As a Construction Purchasing & Procurement Coordinator, you’ll help manage the purchasing process from sourcing and quoting through ordering, delivery, and follow-up.

You’ll work with suppliers of construction materials, building products, equipment, tools, and services, while supporting our construction and operating teams.

This is a hands‑on position for someone who enjoys being involved in the details and doesn’t mind picking up the phone to get answers.

Your Responsibilities
  • Source and purchase construction materials, building supplies, equipment, tools, and related products.

  • Communicate with construction suppliers, vendors, manufacturers, and subcontractors.

  • Request, obtain, and compare supplier quotes.

  • Negotiate pricing, delivery dates, payment terms, and purchasing conditions.

  • Research alternative products and suppliers to achieve better pricing and availability.

  • Review material requirements and help determine the most cost‑effective purchasing options.

  • Coordinate material purchases with project requirements and timelines.

  • Track purchase orders, deliveries, backorders, and outstanding materials.

  • Follow up with suppliers to ensure materials arrive when required.

  • Identify and resolve late deliveries, shortages, incorrect materials, damaged goods, and supplier issues.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with construction suppliers and vendors.

  • Develop relationships with new suppliers and expand our supplier network.

  • Monitor market pricing and identify opportunities for cost savings.

  • Help negotiate volume pricing and better purchasing arrangements.

  • Coordinate local and overseas purchasing where required.

  • Communicate with international suppliers and our overseas team regarding pricing, orders, production, and shipping.

  • Maintain accurate purchasing, supplier, and order records.

  • Work closely with project managers, site teams, operations, accounting, and company leadership.

  • Help improve purchasing systems, procedures, and supplier relationships.

  • Proactively identify purchasing issues before they affect a project.

We’re particularly interested in candidates who have worked around construction materials, building products, contractors, suppliers, or construction projects.

Experience with any of the following is an asset:

  • Commercial construction

  • High‑rise construction

  • Residential construction

  • Construction purchasing

  • Construction procurement

  • Building materials

  • Construction supplies

  • Electrical materials

  • Plumbing materials

  • Flooring and finishes

  • Safety equipment

  • Tools and equipment

  • Construction equipment rentals

  • Building products

  • Material takeoffs

  • Construction estimating

  • Project coordination

  • Construction administration

You don't need to know every construction material.

We’re looking for someone who understands how construction projects work and can learn quickly, communicate with suppliers, and find the right product at the right price.

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is able to communicate very effectively on the phone with clear language skills, a true people person, commercially minded, organized and persistent.

You should be someone who:

  • Can read and understand basic material requirements and product specifications.

  • Pays attention to quantities, specifications, pricing, and delivery dates.

  • Can identify problems before they become bigger problems.

  • Is comfortable working with Excel, email, purchasing systems, and other computer tools.

  • Takes ownership rather than waiting for someone else to solve an issue.

  • Is comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Has strong communication and relationship‑building skills.

Experience We’re Looking For

Preferred:

  • 1–3+ years of experience in construction, purchasing, procurement, estimating, project coordination, or a related role.

  • Knowledge of construction materials and building products.

  • Experience obtaining and comparing supplier quotes.

  • Experience negotiating pricing.

  • Experience tracking orders and coordinating deliveries.

  • Found a less expensive alternative to a specified product.

  • Found a new supplier when an existing supplier couldn’t deliver.

  • Prevented a material shortage from delaying a project.

  • Coordinated a difficult or urgent delivery.

  • Managed several purchasing requirements at the same time.

  • Built a strong relationship with a difficult supplier.

  • Saved a company or project money through better purchasing.

We want someone who thinks:

"There has to be a better way to buy this."

In your first several months, you’ll be expected to:

  • Build strong relationships with our key construction suppliers.

  • Understand our major material categories and purchasing requirements.
