Operating under the authority of the Alberta Superintendent of Insurance, this position holds examiner authority as per Section 793 of the Insurance Act (Act) , and has a direct role in administering the Act, supporting and participating in the supervision of the business of insurance in Alberta, and ensuring all laws related to the conduct of the business of insurance are obeyed and enforced. This role is responsible for managing and conducting regulatory and compliance activities necessary to ensure legislative compliance with respect to insurer Market Conduct and the fair treatment of insurance consumers, and other matters, such as licensing, revenue reporting, appeal panel selection, umpire selections, insurance contract wording submissions, and certified examiner (CE) appointments.

As The Insurer Compliance Analyst, You Will

  • Assist with supervisory investigations and examination:
  • Analyze and investigate market conduct issues that arise and make recommendations for resolution to the Manager of Compliance and/or the Deputy Superintendent.
  • Assist Compliance Officers with on-site examinations.
  • Collect and analyze information and data and develop reports.
  • Review and respond to telephone and written inquiries from consumers, representatives, and insurance entities.
  • Use effective problem solving and interpretive skills to provide guidance and advice to stakeholders.
  • Determine level of response needed, handle the inquiry, or assign to another member of the team.
  • Ensure access to information for Albertans, industry representatives and legal counsel with respect to insurance registry information.
  • Liaise with ministry staff and staff in other ministries, such as: Corporate Tax, Transportation, Service Alberta, Municipal Affairs and Kings Printer, to co-ordinate and resolve issues and provide insurance information and insurance data or statistics.
  • Handle various applications to the Superintendent’s office, such as, but not limited to, CE appointment requests, revenue reporting, appeal panel selection, umpire selections, wording submissions.

You will need to have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and your strengths include the ability to prioritize and support good regulatory decisions. You understand that working collaboratively within the team and building positive relationships with stakeholders will support success in the role. Systems Thinking: You will anticipate outcomes and potential impacts across interrelated legislation, entities and risks. You will understand how changes in the insurance marketplace can affect the regulated entities and recommend adjustments to our supervision to account for these changes.

Creative Problem Solving: You will engage the team to identify risks and recommendations to ensure we have a thorough understanding of the risks and their impacts to solvency, risk management and governance.

Qualifications

A university graduation in a related in related field in Finance, Insurance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or Insurance, Economics, Public Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Accounting; no experience required. In-depth knowledge in life insurance is preferred.

Equivalency

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

The Following Are Considered Assets

  • Knowledge of, and experience in the insurance industry, including property and casualty and/or life insurance.
  • 2 years progressively related experience in financial services, insurance industry or financial regulatory Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), or other insurance education.
  • Experience in financial regulations and market conduct.

Notes

This is a full-time position working 7.25 hours per day / 36.25 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Final Candidates for this position will be asked to undergo a security screening.

Positions will be located in the Terrace building located at 9515 107 St NW, Edmonton, with an expected move to Haultain building located at 9811 109 St NW, Edmonton in 2026.
