The People & Culture department is responsible for all aspects of people management and other organizational service functions including employee/labor relations, compensation, benefits, pension, talent management, succession planning, workforce planning, as well as employee well-being, engagement, and communications.

The Compensation Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing compensation programs that attract, retain, and motivate top talent while ensuring internal equity and compliance with applicable laws. The role involves analyzing salary data, conducting job evaluations, creating salary structures, and providing expert guidance to managers and employees regarding compensation-related matters.

Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain salary structures, including base pay, incentive programs, and pay grades.
  • Conduct market analyses to benchmark compensation structures against industry standards.
  • Provide administrative oversight for any salary market review and administer annual merit increases.
  • Calculate retroactive pay adjustments associated with pay equity, job evaluation and/or salary market reviews.
  • Manage and update compensation data in HRIS systems.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and labour laws, e.g., collective agreements, Pay Equity Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Canada Labour Code, and Canadian Human Resources Code.
  • Work closely with People & Culture team members and OEB executive leadership committee to align compensation strategies with organizational goals.
  • Work collaboratively to create a positive and nurturing team actively supporting each other to achieve shared deliverables and execute common goals.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to provide expertise and guidance on various compensation topics and issues.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Finance, or related field.
  • A CEBS or Compensation related designation would be considered an asset.
  • A CHRP or CHRL designation would be considered an asset.
  • 7 years of experience in human resources, compensation and pay equity.
  • Experience in a regulated industry, utility, public sector, or not-for-profit setting would be an asset.
  • Solid experience conducting job evaluation, job reclassifications, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must have a sound knowledge of the Pay Equity Act, Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, and the Canadian Human Rights Code.
