MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitates day-to-day administration of the hospitals compensation systems and programs;
  • Designs, analyzes and participates in various compensation surveys and interprets results to inform compensation practices and philosophies;
  • Investigates, analyzes and proposes resolutions of compensation-related problems and issues raised by staff and management;
  • Ensures the maintenance and updating of pay bands, job codes, and other changes resulting from collective agreements, policies or legislation;
  • Ensures wage and vacation increases are processed consistently and according to collective agreements and procedures, and processes corrections when required;
  • Act as liaison with the payroll department on complex compensation issues;
  • Audits compensation records periodically to ensure consistency, internal equity and adherence to policies, procedures and collective agreements.
  • Prepare compensation reports, dashboard and analytics to support data-driven decision making.
  • Provide guidance and training to Talent Services staff and managers on compensation policies and practices.
  • Conduct comprehensive job analyses through interviews, questionnaires, and observations;
  • Evaluate and classify jobs using established job evaluation methodologies;
  • Develop and maintain job descriptions and supporting documentation;
  • Collaborate with Talent Services, department heads, and union partners to ensure consistency and fairness in job evaluation;
  • Provide guidance and training to Talent Services staff and managers on job evaluation processes;
  • Maintain job evaluation documentation and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations and legislation;
  • Maintain and recommend improvements to the hospital’s job evaluation tools, systems, and processes including pay equity.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Police record check (Essential)
  • University degree in Commerce or Business Administration preferably in Human Resources (Essential)
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible and related experience (Essential)
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in compensation and/or job evaluation (Essential)
  • Professional Certification in Human Resources (CHRP) or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) (Preferred)
  • Work experience in a healthcare, public sector and unionized environment. (Preferred)
  • Experience in developing or revising job evaluation and pay equity plans and frameworks. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated sound financial, analytical and problem-solving skills. (Essential)
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. (Essential)
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency and meet critical deadlines in a fast-moving project focused environment. (Essential)
  • Highly organized with strong communication skills with a client-focused approach. (Essential)
  • Strong digital competence related to Microsoft 365 with advanced proficiency in Excel. (Essential)
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems such as Workday (Preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of job evaluation methodologies and compensation principles. (Essential)
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail. (Essential)
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to adjust priorities to accommodate shifting demands (Essential)
  • Working knowledge of applicable employment standards and pay equity legislation and general knowledge of corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to compensation and job evaluation. (Essential)

This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment.
