This position works in the Police – Records Management organizational unit. This is public relations and communications, technical and administrative work providing measurable and accountable strategic communications and issue management planning, counsel, tactical services crisis communications and media relations for the Burnaby RCMP Detachment. An incumbent of this class is responsible for: developing and updating the Burnaby RCMP Detachment’s annual communications plan; researching, planning and providing analysis design and publishing services; and establishing and maintaining contact with Burnaby Detachment Regular Members, senior managers within the RCMP, policing community, industry, special interest groups, and other provincial and municipal departments. An ideal candidate will assist Detachment personnel in crisis communications plans, strategic communications plans, and environment scanning. Considerable independence, judgement and initiative are exercised when performing the work. The incumbent will frequently be required to simultaneously address high profile, RCMP reputation sensitive issues that require immediate solutions. Performance is reviewed and evaluated by the incumbent’s supervisor to ensure that the communications needs of the Detachment are attained. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include a completion of a post-secondary program and/or university degree in communications, journalism or a related discipline, plus considerable related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The incumbent will have considerable knowledge of the RCMP and the Burnaby RCMP Detachment’s mandate, operations, goals and strategies; considerable knowledge and skills in journalism, marketing, public affairs and issues management. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to provide advice and recommendations to Detachment personnel on a variety of trends and issues. A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
The incumbent will be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
Schedule:70 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM – 4:15 PM (Nine-Day Fortnight), including some weekends.
