The Office of the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer is looking for a Communications Specialist to join its team in a two-year temporary role with a focus on destination and public realm communications and marketing. Reporting to the Manager of Communications, this role is part of the Civic Engagement and Communications Division and is part of a strong, service-driven team where each day presents fresh challenges and opportunities to tangibly impact the lives of City of North Vancouver’s residents, businesses, partners and visitors.
Responsibilities
This position will support two client groups, the Shipyards and new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre. The Communications Specialist will develop and execute comprehensive communications and marketing strategies for year-round events and activities at both locations, as well as the launch of the Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre and other city capital projects, as needed.
Duties include developing and implementing marketing and communications strategies; as well as delivering a wide variety of public facing marketing and informational materials. The position will work closely with subject matter experts and tourism partners to ensure information is accurate, timely and supports business objectives. With brand consistency at the forefront, the Specialist will develop audience-focused marketing assets that lean into emotive storytelling. They will bridge relationships with industry media, content creators, sponsors, and work closely with internal teams and external partners to drive visibility, enhance visitor engagement, and contribute to City of North Vancouver’s position as one of the most livable cities in Canada.
Requirements
Candidates must have a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or a related discipline and have considerable experience in a communications or marketing position, or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience. Candidates will also possess several years of progressive experience in developing and implementing strategic and multi-channel marketing plans and campaigns, including working with diverse cultural communities and promoting activities ranging from events to standard public programming. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to analyze and report on marketing performance indictors and targets, meet tight deadlines and to juggle numerous and competing demands. The ability to remain strategic in high intensity conditions and handle confidential and sensitive issues with skill, tact and diplomacy, is also a must. A demonstrated interest and experience supporting equity-deserving communities is an asset. A Class 5 BC driver’ s license is also required.
Compensation
$46.07 – $54.44 per hour
(Pay Grade 26 – January 2024 rates)
Hours of Work
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately every three-week scheduling cycle.
Additional Information
For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
