Spokesperson Training & Media Relations | Strategic & Crisis Communications | Storytelling

We’re Hiring: Communications & Social Media Specialist

About Champion Communications & PR:

We’re a Calgary-based communications firm dedicated to championing people, organizations, and causes that make our community a better place to live.

Founded in 2019, we are former journalists turned government staffers, who started Champion with a clear goal: to build an intentionally small firm that delivers tangible results. Today, we work with clients across the country, spanning the political, business, labour, tech, academic, environmental, civic, and nonprofit sectors. From high-stakes media moments to social storytelling, we bring purpose, passion, and a proactive mindset to everything we do.

We specialize in Strategic Communications, Media Relations and Spokesperson Training, Crisis Communications and Storytelling.

About the Role:

We’re seeking a part-time Communications & Social Media Specialist to support and lead a variety of projects in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment. This role is ideal for an early-career communicator with strong instincts for digital media, a passion for public affairs, a hunger to keep up to date on the latest social media trends, and a desire to grow in a small workplace that values creativity.

You’ll work across a range of client files — from leading social strategy, to pitching reporters and supporting crisis communications. This is the perfect role for an emerging professional who lives and breathes social media, gets excited about traditional media, and wants to build a career telling stories that matter. As part of a small and highly collaborative team, you’ll gain meaningful experience and make a visible impact.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Creating compelling content — words, photos, videos, graphics — for social media
  • Writing and executing strategic social media plans for clients across sectors
  • Shooting and editing cellphone video for social, and doing light graphic design (Canva proficiency is an asset)
  • Supporting media training sessions and and helping prepare clients for interviews and public appearances
  • Building relationships with journalists, pitching stories to media, and assisting with media monitoring and analysis
  • Staying informed on news, current events, and trends relevant to our clients and the broader traditional and social media landscapes
  • Planning, promoting and hosting Champion webinars and in-person events on topics of interest
  • Collaborating with clients and team members on projects that make an impact

What You Bring to the Table:

  • You’re a natural storyteller — sharp with words, creative with visuals, and always thinking about what will resonate with audiences
  • Social media is second nature to you; you keep tabs on the latest trends, platforms, algorithm changes and best practices
  • You’re curious and proactive, eager to learn and stay ahead of emerging tools and technologies in comms, social and AI
  • You’re highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • You’re early in your career in communications or journalism and hungry to gain hands-on experience across the full spectrum of communications

Location:This is a hybrid role based in Calgary, with a mix of remote and in-person work as needed.

Compensation Range: This is a part-time contract position (21 hours/week), with a salary range of $24 to $33/hour, commensurate with experience.

How to Apply: Send your resume, a short cover letter, and a few samples of your work (social posts, writing, video, or other content— whatever best shows who you are) to Hello@ChampionCommunications.ca

This posting will remain open until a suitable candidate is found. Only candidates shortlisted for an interview will be contacted.
