Job summary

Alberta FNIGC is seeking a Communications Coordinator based in Calgary or Edmonton to plan and execute integrated marketing campaigns, manage digital channels, and coordinate communications initiatives across the organisation.

You will develop content reflecting our voice and cultural values, collaborate with teams for brand consistency, grow our social presence, and report on campaign performance with actionable insights.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and design/content tools (Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, or equivalent).
  • Hands-on experience managing social media platforms and content management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience creating content for diverse audiences, ideally with Indigenous communities or organisations.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, edit, and distribute written and visual content reflect­ing our organisational voice and cultural values; to reflect our voice.
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure messaging consistency and brand alignment across all platforms.
  • Manage and grow presence across social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter/X) and digital channels.
  • Track campaign performance, analyse audience data, and identify opportunities to strengthen engagement and reach.
  • Plan and coordinate event logistics—from virtual webinars to in-person nation visits—and promote them to target communities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media contacts, journalists, and Indigenous community leaders.
  • Gather feedback and performance data; create reports, dashboards, and presentations with insights and recommendations.

Communications Coordinator
Are you a strategic communicator who thrives on balancing creativity with analytics?

Alberta FNIGC (Alberta First Nations Information Governance Centre) is a not-for-profit, First Nations-owned organisation dedicated to promoting, protecting, and advancing First Nations' Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession (OCAP®) principles, self-determination, and jurisdiction in research and information management. We partner with our Nation members to ensure free, prior, and informed consent is respected and that credible data remains under First Nations control.

Based in Calgary or Edmonton, the successful candidate will plan and execute integrated marketing campaigns, manage digital communication channels, and coordinate communications initiatives across the organisation.

What you might do in a day…
  • Develop, edit, and distribute written and visual content (blog posts, infographics, social media assets, newsletters, video scripts, event materials, press releases) that reflect our organisational voice and cultural values;
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure messaging consistency and brand alignment across all platforms;
  • Manage and grow presence across social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter/X) and digital channels to reach diverse audiences;
  • Track campaign performance, analyse audience data, and identify opportunities to strengthen engagement and reach;
  • Plan and coordinate event logistics—from virtual webinars to in-person nation visits—and promote them to target communities;
  • Build and maintain relationships with media contacts, journalists, and Indigenous community leaders;
