Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a Switchboard Operator/Receptionist to handle calls to patient rooms and hospital lines, greet visitors, and assist with directions and travel arrangements within the facility.

The role requires strong communication, basic computer skills, and the ability to respond to emergencies; French language skills are an asset. This casual relief position operates in a 24/7 department.

Qualifications

  • Grade XII or equivalent education required.
  • Previous experience in health care/emergency or related field is an asset.
  • Knowledge in the operation of telecommunications equipment and basic computer skills.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to respond to, follow and interpret emergency procedures.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and transfer all calls directed to patient rooms, hospital general administration/operational lines and internal operator lines.
  • Direct the public at reception areas and assist them to their destination.
  • Direct building exit procedures in the event of a fire or evacuation order.
  • Provide internal operational services, such as pager issuance and information dissemination.
  • Assist patients and the public with local travel arrangements to their destinations.

About the Opportunity

The Switchboard Operator/Receptionist is responsible for receiving and transferring all calls directed to patient rooms, the hospital general administration/operational lines and internal operator directed calls. This position receives the public at reception areas and directs/assists them to their destination. The incumbent is responsible for directing building exit procedures in the event of a fire or evacuation order. The Switchboard Operator/Receptionist provides internal operational services; i.e. pager issuance, information dissemination etc. The incumbent also assists patients and the public in local travel arrangements to their destinations.

About You

Compensation and Benefits

$21.99 - 23.63 hourly
