Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority in Halifax is seeking a Casual Utility Worker to maintain hospital cleanliness under the supervision of the Assistant Manager. You will perform cleaning, mopping and dusting across departments to keep the facility safe and welcoming.

Shifts may include days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Requires Grade 12/GED or equivalent; cleaning and floor care experience is preferred; French language skills are an asset. Compensation is hourly and assessed accordingly.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12/GED or equivalent work experience required.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with cleaning and floor care experience.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the hospital by cleaning, mopping and dusting all areas.
  • Perform floor care, carpet and chair shampooing, waste removal, chemical spill cleanup, laundry, room setups, and interior window cleaning.
  • Assist with isolation room cleaning, winter salt application, flood and blood spill cleanup.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Assistant Manager, the Utility Worker maintains the cleanliness of the hospital. Activities include cleaning, mopping and dusting all areas in the hospital. Other work would include floor care (scrubbing and waxing floors), shampooing of carpets and chairs, waste removal (hazardous waste and regular waste), chemical spill cleanup, laundry tasks, room set-ups, window cleaning (interior), some salt application during winter months, isolation room cleaning, flood and bloodspill clean ups.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Grade 12/GED or equivalent work experience required.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with cleaning and floor care experience.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
