Job summary

Qulliq Energy Corporation in Iqaluit, Nunavut, seeks a Communications and Social Media Coordinator to strengthen its digital presence. You will develop, design, and deliver social media initiatives across platforms, create content aligned with QEC’s brand and energy priorities, and support public engagement and education efforts.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is entrusted to provide safe, reliable power to all customers in Nunavut. Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut. In comparison to other utilities in Canada, QEC faces unique challenges as it operates 25 stand-alone diesel power generation facilities and distribution systems located in each of the territory’s communities.

Iqaluit, Nunavut

The Communications and Social Media Coordinator strengthens Qulliq Energy Corporation’s (QEC) digital presence by developing, designing, and delivering social media initiatives across multiple platforms. The role enhances public engagement, supports community connections across Nunavut, and ensures consistent, culturally relevant communication. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Affairs and working as an integral member of the Corporate Affairs team, the Coordinator creates original content, including photos, short videos, and visual assets, and produces high-quality materials for print, digital, and promotional use that align with QEC’s brand and communication objectives.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Develop and manage content calendars across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and community-focused communication channels.
• Create culturally relevant and accessible content that reflects QEC’s values, Nunavut’s communities and languages, and key energy priorities.
• Produce and edit multimedia content, including photography, short-form video, social media clips, graphics, infographics, posters, brochures, digital ads, and other visual materials.
• Manage social media channels and public engagement by monitoring inquiries, responding appropriately, escalating issues, and supporting community outreach, public meetings, and educational initiatives.
• Support public awareness and communications campaigns related to energy conservation, safety, outages, new programs, and other QEC priorities, including translating technical energy concepts into clear public-facing materials.
• Monitor performance and maintain communications resources by tracking social media analytics, preparing monthly reports, maintaining organized digital asset libraries, and ensuring consistent use of QEC’s brand and visual standards.
• Coordinate multiple communications and design projects with internal teams, local stakeholders, and external vendors, including gathering community stories and content, preparing print-ready materials, developing presentations and templates, and managing projects within tight deadlines.
• Other closely related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications Include

• Degree in Communications, Graphic Design, Public Relations, or Diploma in Social Media Management, Graphic Design or Visual Communications.
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or equivalent tools with minimum 1 year experience.
• Basic photography and videography skills, including capturing, editing, and preparing content for social media and digital platforms with minimum 2 years' experience using mobile devices or cameras to produce high-quality visual content.
• Minimum of two years managing social media platforms for an organization or brand.
• Familiarity with Nunavut’s cultural context and willingness to incorporate Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles.
• Experience in the energy, utilities, or public sector is an asset.

We offer a competitive starting salary range of $99, 840.00 to $114, 913.50 and a northern living allowance of $16,328.00 per annum. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package including a defined benefit pension program. In addition, subsidized housing is available for this position. This position is included in the Nunavut Employee’s Union.

Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.
