Job description

Valard, is Canada’s premier utility contractor, as well as head of the Valard Group of Companies AND part of the Quanta Group, the largest electrical power contractor in North America. Valard has full-service capabilities for transmission, distribution, substations, foundations, telecommunications and renewable energy.

We are seeking a highly skilledCommercial Managerwith extensive experience in contract management and negotiation, financial analysis, and Salesforce analytics. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing the financial and contractual aspects of our construction projects, ensuring profitability, compliance, and risk mitigation.

The position would be responsible for implementing all aspects of the Valard contract management process with respect to:

  • Contract Management:Support contract lifecycle, from tendering to execution, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards.
  • Contract Drafting & Negotiation:Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to safeguard the company’s interests. Support project management team in change management related matters.
  • Financial Analysis:Conduct financial evaluations of projects, analyzing budgets, forecasts, and cash flows to optimize profitability.
  • Salesforce Analytics:UtilizeSalesforce analyticsto assess financial data, track project performance, and enhance business insights for informed decision-making.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:Work closely with estimating, project management, legal, finance, and operations teams to drive commercial success.
  • Risk Assessment:Identify potential risks in contracts and projects, developing mitigation strategies to minimize impact includes risk management related to forecasting, scheduling and performance evaluation.
  • Dispute Resolution:Handle claims and disputes professionally, ensuring fair outcomes and minimizing financial exposure.
  • Market & Industry Analysis:Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive dynamics.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree inbusiness administration, finance, law, quantity surveying, construction management, or a related field.
  • Minimum5-10 yearsof experience in commercial or contract management, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Expertise incontract law,and dispute resolution.
  • Strong financial acumen, with proficiency in budgeting, forecasting, and cost management.
  • Experience withSalesforce analytics, including dashboard creation, reporting, and data visualization for financial and operational insights.
  • Excellentnegotiation, communication, and stakeholder managementskills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in relevant software such as Microsoft Office, contract management systems, and financial analysis tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Commercial and project controls Experience in large-scalecommercial or infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with constructionprocurement and subcontractor management.
  • Experience in utility, renewables and battery storage industries.
