Job summary

Baker Tilly Nova Scotia is seeking a Co-op Student to join our Assurance and Advisory team in Dartmouth, NS. You will support accounting setup, financial statement prep, and tax returns while developing audit skills at a junior level and building client relationships.

The role emphasizes growth, mentoring, and hands-on experience across accounting, tax, and advisory services within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Working towards or completion of a bachelor’s degree in commerce or business administration (Accounting/Finance major).
• Working towards completion of pre-requisite courses for the CPA PEP.
• Familiarity with basic accounting concepts (balance sheet, income statement, etc.).
• You are an excellent communicator with strong written and verbal skills.
• Have an interest in accounting and tax work.
• Be a highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic and keen attention to detail.
• You have strong interpersonal skills and are an excellent problem solver.
• You are proficient in, and willing to learn various computer applications.
• Knowledge of Caseware/Caseview and TaxPrep is an asset (but not required)

Responsibilities

• Plan, set-up and administer accounting systems and prepare financial information for an individual, department, company or other establishment.
• Examine accounting records and prepare financial statements and reports.
• Perform audit duties at a junior level, including examining journal entries, statements, and records for accuracy and compliance.
• Develop and maintain cost savings, reporting and internal control procedures.
• Examine financial accounts and prepare income tax returns.
• Analyze financial statements and provide financial, business and tax advice.
• Assist with compilations, tax returns & personal taxes.
• Build and nurture strong working relationships with staff, partners and clients.
• Participate in special projects as assigned by partner or senior staff.

Your role:
