Job summary

Baker Tilly Canada Cooperative in Dartmouth, NS is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant, Assurance, for a permanent, full-time role. You will assist in planning, executing and completing audits or review/compile engagements and supervise junior staff on field assignments.

With 3–5 years of experience and CPA-in-waiting, you’ll analyze financial information, prepare reconciliations and ensure compliance with the applicable reporting framework, while collaborating with managers and clients to deliver

Qualifications

• Three to five years direct accounting experience.
• CPA-in-waiting with CFE status or completion.
• Experience with Caseware/Caseview, TaxPrep, Xero and QuickBooks is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, execution and completion of audits and reviews.

• Analyze financial information, prepare reconciliations and adjust entries.
• Assess risk, controls, and adherence to Financial Reporting Framework.
• Prepare tax returns for personal, corporate, nonprofit entities when required.

• Prepare and review financial statements and related disclosures.

Your role:

• Assist in planning, execution and completion of a wide range of clients in either the large client Audit stream as part of a team, or the Private Enterprise stream focusing on Review and Compilation (T1, T2, T3, T5) engagements, both independently and as part of a small team.
• Supervise junior staff during field assignments, inform managers of engagement status, and manage engagement progress.
• Analyze financial information, accounting processes, and operations procedures; provide account reconciliations and propose adjusting entries.
• Assess risk, controls, operational performance, and adherence to the applicable Financial Reporting Framework.
• Prepare personal, corporate, non-profit organization, and charitable tax returns, if part of the private enterprise team.
• Collaborate with peers and senior management on file planning and completion within time constraints.
• Provide personal, attentive service to clients to encourage productive working relationships.
• Prepare and review financial statements and related note disclosures.

What you bring to the table:

• Successful completion of the Common Final Evaluation (CFE), at a minimum holding a status of CPA-in-waiting.
• Minimum of three to five years direct experience.
• Project management and strong organization skills.
• Experience with Caseware/Caseview, TaxPrep, Xero and Quickbooks (QBO) is an asset.
