Job summary

Baker Tilly Nova Scotia in Dartmouth is seeking a Co-op Student to join the US/Cross Border Tax team. The role focuses on preparing Cross-Border (US/Canada) individual tax returns and gaining in-house tax training to build specialized skills.

You'll collaborate with partners and staff, support client service, and participate in projects while developing accounting and tax competencies. Start date January 2027; temporary, full-time position on-site in Dartmouth.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing or completed bachelor’s degree in commerce/ business administration with accounting focus.
  • Progress toward CPA PEP prerequisites is valued.
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting concepts (balance sheet, income statement).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Cross-Border (US/Canada) individual tax returns.
  • Participate in cross-border tax training boot-camp to gain specialized skills.
  • Support team members in delivering excellent client service.
  • Build relationships with staff, partners and clients.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned by leadership.

Your role:
  • Prepare Cross-Border (US and Canadian) individual income tax returns;
  • Participate in an in-depth, in-house, Cross-Border tax training “boot-camp” to equip you with the specialized skills to prepare Cross-Border tax returns;
  • Collaborate with and support team members in providing excellent client service;
  • Build and nurture strong working relationships with staff, partners and clients;
  • Participate in special projects as assigned by partner or senior staff.
What you bring to the table:
  • Working towards or completion of a bachelor’s degree in commerce or business administration (Accounting major preferred)
  • Working towards completion of pre-requisite courses for the CPA PEP
  • Familiarity with basic accounting concepts (balance sheet, income statement, etc.)
  • You are an excellent communicator with strong written and verbal skills
  • Have an interest in accounting and tax work
  • Be a highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic and keen attention to detail
  • You have strong interpersonal skills and are an excellent problem solver
  • You are proficient in, and willing to learn various computer applications.
  • Knowledge of Caseware/Caseview and TaxPrep is an asset (but not required)
